Hows it going guys, I decided this weekend that I was going to begin a fantasy army. And to be honest there is alot more involved then 40k. So I been doing some reading and Im still a little lost on what I should get as far as models. So far I have the dwarfs from the battle for skull pass set and also a battalion box set. Im still not 100% sure how im going to set this army up just yet so Im looing for some advice on an army list and what should be my next items to buy. money is not an issue. For it can stay at 1500 pts while im getting started. But I would like to advance it to 2500pts in order to use the anvil in the future.
So really whats a good army list for 1500 pts, what should I add to what I already have.'
what should I buy next?
how should I play this army?
excuse me for being a noob..
In a 1500 pts I would probably go with 3 hero's. 2 of which is tooled up, and the third as a BSB.
For units I would go with a few blocks of Warriors perhaps a Longbeard unit, and a speciel unit block. And then a few warmachines. Depending on how many points there are left.
But all in all, it depends on what kinda strategi and ofcourse which units you like the most.
Hope that helps a bit

Ok, so you have the 12 warriors from Skull pass, and the 24 from the battalion set, giving you 36 warriors. Another box of warriors would give you the 50 you need for the 2 large blocks that lets you maximize rank bonus and static resolution. Another box or two to make your Longbeards and your set.
I would make 12 quarellers from the shooters in the battalion, and the rest as thunderers. this gives you 14 thunders and 12 quarellers, that can be fleshed out to 20 each with another box of shooters, which is all you need for now.
I would make a Organ gun with the battalion and that way you have a cannon and a organ gun, which is a good start. Maybe pick up a few bolters or a grudge thrower and a flame cannon, and you got artillery covered. (I personally want them all, as each has its use.)
All that is left is your specialist warriors. I am personally doing a few conversions to make this a little easier to obtain quickly. Warriors with the face shields and all metalic paint make passable IronBreakers, and warriors with greatweapons, but with the axe heads replaced with the Hammer heads on that sprue are going to make nice hammersers. The cool thing is that if you pick up the 4-6 boxes of warriors that your going to need for your longbeards and Speicalist units, your going to have enough bits left over to do all kinds of conversions, like giving your IB's a different shield, or using just the BIG hammer heads on the warriors for hammerers. A couple command packs and you have your specialist at half the price of buying the actuall IB/hammer 5 packs.
You will have pleanty of Miners, so don't worry there.
As to Gyro/Slayers, they are great for certain things, but have serious drawbacks, so not nessisary for a beginning army. Slayers are currently lowest on my agenda, I want them, but not before I have all my infantry blocks and artillery.
Last is a few models that can represent heros. The one of a lord on a oath stone and BSB is nice for the price, you can always make the BSB a runesmith option. Also, all runesmiths can take a GW, so a thane model can be used if needed. I personally want the thane on sheildbeareres. That is a hard conversion to do with out the actual model, as there aren't any dwarf shields on the sprues that are big enough.
Well thats my two cents, hope it helped.
alright so you have decided dwarfs thats great
Lets start with heros I would have a tooled up thane and a tooled up runesmtih maybe with master rune of balance but that will kind of depened on what you will be playing for your third hero option either take a BSB or even a Dragon Slayer with no up grades just stick this guy out there and watch what your enemy does to take care of him. it seems that other people always think that he poses a huge threat on the field so they will turn to him very quickly and this will give you more time to shoot.
for core choices i always run at least one unit of ten thunderers with shields no command. next run 2 squads of warriors with shield and full command in between them i normally put a unit of longbeards. As far as special choices go this is where people really stat arguing I would highly highly recomend you field a grudgethrower with rune of accuracy if you get good at guessing range you wont believe the things it can do. Next woudl depend on who you were playing if you expect to see some tough guys then field a cannon. or if not just field two bolt throwers with rune of penetration and engineers. For my last special choice i almost always deploy a unit of Hammerers sttuborn and great! with great weapons and shields they work very nicely and can do some serious damage.
last but not least the rare choices im not going to lie the only rare choice i have ever fielded is the organ gun. In bigger battles i just field two of them for two reasons 1 because i am lazy and dont want to buy and paint the gyrocopter 2 it really seems to work. With a good roll on the organ gun you can destroy units. I would place it either right in the middle of your force or on the flank. I have heard and seen that the gyrocopter can be a great march blocker but like i said i have not tried it.
Thorek Ironbrow is pretty sweet too i would snag him and you can use the model as a normal Anvil of doom or roll with big ol Thorek
really hope this helps atleast a little bit sorry its a bit random
Overall you made a good choice i am still very happy with choosing to do dwarfs!!!!!
