I have played Dwarfs for about a month now, and even though everyone a play against says that they hate dwarfs and that its the most overpowered race of all, I've lost every game I've played so far. Then I heard that there is something called the "Thorek Gunline" that is supposed to have won a lot of competitions. However, I can't seem to find it anywhere. can someone please show me the list (2000p.)?
EDIT: Read some posts on this forum, and read that Thorek is banned in most tournaments. What would a 2000p. Gunline list look like without him? Seriously need your help.

a thorek gunline is simply a gunline army with thorek Ironbrow with the anvil of doom as the centerpiece. the reason that it is usually banned is because most people find it very unfun to play against. Just look in your army book and read up on Thorek.
We will remain, until the battle is won: BROTHERS OF METAL!!!!
Ok, but what is a Gunline army? War Machines and Thunderers only? Does it use any CC units at all? Can you help me with a general Gunline army list (with or without Thorek) so that I can stand a chance against my friends?
Better not play a gunline, it draws a lot of negative criticism. A gunline is basically an army heavy with warmachines and missile units and maybe 2 or 3 CC units in front of it ( You have to fill up core choices and your points. ) It's not that much fun to play against because it's basically * enemy advances, you shoot * and when the enemy reaches your battleline, well.. you're toast. Unless you managed to kill about 60% of his army shooting.
When you have only played fantasy for a short time, it's no suprise you lose more often than you win. Peopl who call dwarfs the most overpowered army and hate them are just whiners. -.- What's overpowered about an army with:
- no skirmishers
- 1 scout unit, which is a block ( very handy.... )
- only expensive units
- only 1 model ( and it's a rare choice!! ) with a movement higher than 3! 0.o
- no cavalry
- no chariots
- no swarms
- no omgwtf units like knight units, swordmasters etc. with a truckload of attacks.
- 1 unit relatively omgwtf, but has no friking armour to save them from getting shot to a thousand pieces
- no units with 2 attacks per model, except above unit who run around naked
- no charge, ever, ever! Who in his right mind comes into our astounding (!!! ) 6 inch charge... Very handy if our strongest hand-to-hand unit has no armour to take the beating before they strike back..
- no magic ( only anvil of doom, but that's only at 2000+ pts and very expensive )
Sure I can think of some more. But people who whine about dwarfs shouldn't. Our army is short of so many things. We do however have astounding runes to make fantastic weapons and even our standard warriors are tough, plus good artillery. Only what use are they if you are side and rearcharged, an entire unit disappears in smoke because of some magic spell or the entire frontrank is gone before they can strike back? :/
It's better to just keep playing games and try to develope some tricks to deal with certain situations. On the forum here you can ask for tips and tricks to fight against certain opponents ( we should really have a tactica which covers fighting against different opponents ) and post your armylists so we can give you tips how to improve them. As a respected GW staffmember once told me, when you start fantasy you are thrown in the deep water from the very beginning, 40K is more shallow waters to start.
Personally I like to play smallers games than 2000. 1000 is good. In those games you van focus a lot better on what's happening. A good size to learn how to play with your dwarfs.
About the Thorek gunline, just to tell you. It sounds very tempting, haven't tried it myself yet It's Thorek with his anvil of doom ( fitting name ) . Runelords with the anvil can use 3 spells. 1 makes them immune to fear and terror, and unbreakable and stuff. 2 makes you go another full movement ( handy handy! ) and nr 3 punches your enemy in the face with D6 str 4 hits. For these spells you need to throw 2+, if you throw 1, you need to roll a miscast table and your nice expensive anvil could blow up. You can also do "ancient power". The spell then works on 4+, but affects D3 units and spell 1 makes them unbreakable or something instead of immune. Spell 3 does 2D6 on D3 units instead of 1D6 on 1 unit. Thorek however can do ancient power on 3+ AND reroll that dice. So spamming hits ftw!!
.. and anvil spells can't be dispelled
Ok, I guess that makes sense.
I have one army list that my friend made for me with the models I have (I got 2 Battle For Skull Pass boxes), it looks a little like this:
+ Full Command
+ Full Command
This is my friends list. Is it playable? What should be changed? How can I create a playable 2000p. list out of this? Ironbreakers seems nice. I'm having tons of problems with Tzeench Flamers BBQ:ing my shooters and then hide. I can't really seem to kill them off before he kills me. What can I do? I can't run as fast as them, so I can't charge them.
I like to play quite defensive, but perhaps not a compleate gunline, as noone will play against me if I use it. Suggestions?
There is one thing you should really take, an organgun! I have never played against daemons before, noone around here has a daemon army ( yet ). But I believe Daemons don't have a remarkable toughness, right? Organ gun can finish off everything, and then I mean everything. It is awesome in decimating skirmish units. Daemon toughness is propably 3, maybe a few 4's? Shoot with the organguns str 5 and AUTOHITS and there goes a unit. To fire the organ gun you point at an enemy unit, say "im gonna fire at those" and roll the artillerydice. The number that you roll is the number of shots you get. Roll a misfire and you well.. get a misfire. But because it hits automatically, it is one of the most awesome warmachines in the game. Especially fun against woodelfs with units that have -2 or -3 modifiers to shoot at and the trademark toughness 3 of elfs.
To write some tips for your list, I do not have the time at the moment, but tomorrow I will take a good look. First thing, I always give the Thane a rune of snorri spangelhelm instead of Masterrune of swiftness. This way he will hit regular troops on 2+ and every character with same or higher weaponskill on 3+.
Ok, thanks a lot
With RoSwiftness, its just nice to meet a charge with 2-3 casualtys before he gets to kill of a Dwarf or two. But I really want Snorri as well
But without RoFury it would be 3 attacks? Or did you mean on a Lord?
Those attacks did came in handy today. I was fighting dwarfs vs Orcs & goblins ( dwarfs have hatred against all greenskins! ) and my longbeards with the above thane of pain ( runes of snorri, fury, cleaving ) . He charged them with squighoppers and his goblin general on giant squig. He hits first and to my enormous relief he only did 1 wound with his 6 attacks after hitting, wounding and saving. A cry of joy followed by the swift dispatch of that goblin general. 4 hits, 3 wounds, byebye. This was against a goblin so he was easy, against enemies with higher toughness and weaponskill, your attacks will surly be needed.
And the list above is something like 1100, 1200 , I ran over it quikly.
