first of all:
I know pretty well this strategy is beatable, but I find very funny to play time to time.
It is not a full scale strategy, only a part of a greater army.
It should'nt be used in small scale armies, then you find your army destroyed before you can say you first grudge.
Hammerers regiment; at least 20+ (with CSM (Champion, Standard bearer, ;Musician)) with shields.
--- magic standard: Ro battle and Ro Stoicism
characters inside the regiment:
Dwarf Lord: Oath-stone,
--- Runes: 3 Ro warding and what ever suits you
--- Runic banner: MRo Stromni Redbeard, 2x determination (or only one and Guarding instead)
If you have not been shot to the ground, this is what you get in close combat:
- A total of +8 points (if you double unit strength still beats you opponent) in combat resolutions. WITHOUT YOU OWN KILLS
- you are stubborn with a Ld of 10! (from the Dwarf Lord)
- in case of emergency: one or two times you can roll Ld-test on a single d6 = no change of running at all.
- in case of emergency (You got flanked): You got the Oath-stone to save your ass
- Magic resistance 3!
- immune to fear and terror
- may Re-roll breaktest; from the BSB
That's about it. In normal conditions there is only a 1/144 chance that your regiment will run if you should lose combat resolutions!
Maybe im am wrong about somethings or I forgot some rules (I haven't played in a while, then please tell me. And as said in the introduction, this is for sure beatable.
And a final note; This combonation is quite expensive, 850+ pts

sadly this build is illegal. if you check the oathstone rules you'll find that an oathstone means that only the stonebearer may be in a unit. no other characters
also the unit would be stubborn 9, not ten as its the unit which is stubborn, not the dwarf lord. you would need a master rune of kingship on the lord for this :/

spambot kill tally: 79
[16:19] <@Alzer> Arky's right though
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> I know he is.
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> He usually is.
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> Sometimes it's intentional.
[00:01] <+zubus> i love you, ya skirt wearin nothern monkey! ^_^
okay I'm corrected, as I said it's a long time since I've played.
But without the Oath-stone and the Ld 10 the build is powerfull anyway
this means the chance is not 1/144 but 1/36, for those of you who finds it interesting.
but thanks for the correction mate

It's a very expensive unit even without the BSB, with average chances to success. It can be bogged down and stay out of battle for the rest of it. Seeing the spells Chaos sorcerers have, (Deamons and Warriors), and how they can render useless the abilities on many units, I believe the way forward for the Dwarves are cheap, but many, units and cheap heroes.
Our troops are good at combat, with good protection and Ld, and can be supported by amazing war machines.
I agree it sure is Beatable/countable; but no unit (or army) is invinsible.
And if you take this unit in and normal 2000pts army, you have a really bad chance of winner the game.
You need to work the MRo Challenging in there somewhere or drop the Lord for an Anvil of Doom or this unit will never see combat.
Are you willing to explain why?You need to work the MRo Challenging in there somewhere or drop the Lord for an Anvil of Doom or this unit will never see combat.
Personally i've seen it in combat most of the battles I remember where I've used it. But I know playing styles varies between gaming areas like the length of dwarf beard.
Your opponent could avoid this unit completely, and keep it busy with some irelevant units.
Ofcourse, he dont know what is in the unit, untill he reaches it, but since hammereres are pretty nasty, they might wanna avoid them anyway.
