Iam new to warhammer and have a quite nooby question, can characters join all units or only units with bodyguard special rule such as hammerers or white lions?
Characters can pretty much join any unit they want with a few exceptions like units of flyers.
You can find all those on Page72 of the Rule book
but what do bodyguard do then?
If you have the Dwarves Army Book, look at the Hammerers entry what special rules have, if you take a Lord (only) and put him with them.
They usually gain extra rules if you put certain characters with them.
Hammerers for instance become immune to Fear and Terror if you put a Dwarf Lord in the unit.
OK, thanks for the help.
I believe it means that if the unit is joined by a character that unit becomes stubborn.
Though you'll have to check up on that. (I've got no books on me so i'm going off my brain and if there is one thing in life, It's learn to never trust your brain)
Hammerers are always stubborn. They gain immune to fear and terror when joined by a Dward Lord.
On the other side of the specturm are slayers. They have a rule called "Loner" and they can only be joined by heroes and lords with that same rule, these being Dragon Slayers, and Daemon Slayers.
Good luck with your army!
