I was wondering if you could help me with a question i have ....... the Master Rune of Flight says it's treated as a throwning weapon. The strength of a throwing axe is the users strength +1. The basic strength value of a dwarven character is 4.
So with 2 runes of cleaving (each add +1 str) is it a str7 throwing weapon???
Due to the wording of the rune saying that it is treated as a thrown weapon and not as a thrown axe specifically I would be inclined to say that it would not get the +1 to strength as there are other thrown weapons other than axes and the axe is the only one that gives +1 strength, from what I have seen from magic item lists if GW intends something to retain the properties of a mundane weapon in addition to being magical it would say so in the item's rules(such as a magical spear having the wording "counts as a spear" in it's rules). So in this case it would have to specifically say that the weapon was treated as a throwing axe.
Vargrim21 is correct. The rules for runes state that they lose all abilities of the mundane version, so the hammer would not get the extra +1 S for being a thrown weapon, it just follows the rules for one.
That's a shame. A friend of mine uses dwarfs, i was trying to help him out. I thought i'd found a stand and shoot chariot killer there. My reasoning was the other thrown weapons are knives and javelins. Knives are small concealed weapons, and it's obviously not a javelin. But it's like you say, the rune weapons don't retain any properties of the mundane item. Shame. Thanks for the help though.
But runes of flight and might will give you strength 8. And cost less.
