Hi i came across some confusion about the magic resistance in units and hoped someone might be able to help.
If you have a unit of ironbreakers and you give them the rune of sanctuary (magic resistance 1 to the unit) and you place a dwarf lord in with them who has the rune of warding (Magic resistance 1 on the character and the unit he is with) is the magic resistance cumulative so the ironbreakers would have magic res 2 or would it still only be 1 or 2 for ironbreakers and 1 for lord
If anyone knows what would happen i would much appreciate the help thanks
I know that the Sanctuary rune says it's cumulative, but I don't remember if the rune on the Lord is too. (I don't have the army book at work).
Being bold, I would say they don't stack up. You choose either or. It happens the same thing on other armies. You choose if you have the MR from the standard or the character.
But if you plan to have your lord with your Ironbreakers then you don't have to do this. Just get to someone the 2 MR bonus. Preferably the standard.
Why? Because the Lord can die while the unit will still hold. On the other side, if the unit is paniced and run, more likely it will be run down (dwarves) and you will lose the standard, and the lord.
If you prefer to keep the Lord MR, and you want him always with the Ironbreakers, get them another rune. (double strength). They will needed most.
But it's always the experience. One year now, I tested numerous combinations to shut down completely the magic phase with the smallest cost, without running anvil, and keep characters and units cheap but effective in CC.
From the rulebookThe cumulative effect from the banner is if you stack multiples of it on the same banner.Magic resistance is never cumulative, so if a magic resistant character joins a magic resistant unit, or a different magic resistance is bestowed on the unit by a spell or similar, never add the different magic resistances together, but use the best available.
