The local GW establishment is running a doubles night tonight, 2000 points each army making 4000vs4000 overall. I want to take my newly founded dwarf army and want to know what people would recommend doing with the shorties in a doubles situation.
The draw for partners is going to be random but is very likly to be another "good" army (probably lizardmen because people arent sick of skegadons yet) against 2 "evil" armies.
Make sure you have enough dispel dice to lock down the magic phase. More than you bring in a normal game. The biggest drawback to 2vs2 with dwarves is that you dont have any magic. So your partner will never get any of his magic off due to your opponents having 2 armys worth of dispel dice vs one army. As a result you need to be able to lock down your opponents magic in return or you're going to have a rough time. As far as composition goes, I'd take a balanced army. Gunline/hand to hand. Bring slayers to guard warmachines(yours and your opponents) and ironbreakers to protect flanks. Other than that just make sure you can follow your partner(because we all know you wont be leading the charge)
Thats what I thought in a way.
I'd never consider it in a normal game but I'm really considering getting out the Banner of basically dispel everything for +2 to all attempts.
With the number of VC armies hanging round the place having at least 50-50 to dispel one dice neheks will be a winner I think.
As far as the rest of your advice, I am yet to get myself some slayers but the breakers will certainly be a presence on the flank. Im thinking of using some GW warriors to look after what I think will probably be 2 organ guns.
Im also half considering bringing along a unit of ogres as DoW, but I really wish I knew what else was going to be on my side.
Should be a good laugh though, I'll keep you posted.
Team games are theonly time I bring that banner too.
Let us know what you end up teaming up with and how the games go.
Oh yeah....and dont forget the grudge throwers.... With 4000 points worth of enemies out there you're bound to hit something everytime.
Well that went quite well.
Paired with a wonderfully magiclight Orcs and Goblins army with that banner that gives loads of DD we came up against a new Skegged to the teeth Lizardmen army and a 2 hydra dragon and mandrake fuelled Dark Elf army.
AND WE DIDNT LOSE!!!
My miners even managed to make the dragon run away off the board through SCR.
In the end we lost by about 200 points but in 4000 a side thats WELL within a draw. The format worked really well so the establishment in question is going to run it for a few weeks.
Shine on you Crazy Diamond.
