I have seen the model of the slayer king Ungrim Ironfist, =] And I really like it alot Xp I was thinking of ordering it and using it as a lord, but that is not the point of this post. I plan on mkaing my dwarfs as Karak Kadrin dwarfs, I was thinking on asking you guys if I should take a regular unit of troll slayers or upgrade to GIANT slayers, because of course they have better stats lol. I know slayers don't have much armour on them but who knows. maybe they might be a pain in the butt to kill lol. But anyways, let me know what you guys think of it, yesh?
Black Templars - 9/2/5
Dwarves - 5/0/3
I would not make the entire unit into giant slayers. They are an expensive upgrade and are not that much better than troll slayers, only gaining a few points in certain stats. I would buy troll slayers but upgrade perhaps three to five of them to Giant Slayers; adds a bit of protection, makes sure the unit hits hard (if it gets chance) and isn't too expensive.
Giantslayers add a little bit more punch. Str 4 is better than 3, and they have an extra attack. I used a unit of 10 trollslayers once. They quite exceeded my expectations, by a lot. A unit of 20 or so orc boyz with shaman charged them, but my slayers won ( either the first of second round ) , the boyz fled and I overran em. Too bad a night goblin fanatic waltzed through them the turn after and about 4 slayers found their 'mighty doom' at the end of a bunch of night goblin sticks, but still.
Doesn't your enemy have to say which models he targets before he rolls, with the troll and giant slayers? In that case you can just remove trollslayers if he forgets or doesn't know. It's like removing 8 normal warriors in a round, but not the champion because he wasn't targeted.
If I use slayers, I use them on a flank in a unit of 10. They are missile magnets so I don't take units of 20, because they are pretty expensive for naked dwarfs that die quikly to shooting. They are not that bad a killing big things. A unit of trollslayers might just kill a unit of trolls due to their slayerskill. The slayerskill gives you most of the punch against big stuff, but strangely against the smaller critters and mobs with good ol' T3 you will like the giantslayer's WS5, S4 and 2 attacks.
