A few times I have seen people saying the Master Rune of Fear (unit causes Fear) is too expensive and not worth it but I have combined it with the Rune of Stoicisim (doubles unit strength) a few times and it has worked a charm.
The great thing about this combination is that you can actually spread the cost between a unit banner and the BSB which means you aren't quite putting all your eggs in one basket.
Personally I have found that dwarves work best when you rely on Combat Resolution to beat enemies that have been weakened through shooting rather than rely on delivering a high death toll in combat.
With this in mind I often use an Ironbreaker unit which includes a BSB with Master Rune of Fear and a unit banner with Rune of Stocisim and Rune of Battle.
This gives a massive static combat resolution, you have a good chance of not taking many (or indeed any) casulaties and if you win you will almost certainly autobreak (baring insane courage) the enemy unit.
The other obvious beneifts from the Master rune of Fear include
-The fact that enemy units need to take fear checks to charge you.
-Makes you immune to fear itself
For its points this seems like a bargin and I am surprised more dwarven players don't use this banner.

i use rune of stoicism and battle as a regular constant on my IB, i also like using rune of slowness on my BSB which i put with my IB, this helps me get the charge more often then one would normaly get with our wonderful 6" charge..., will have to try the MRoF and RoS combo though, sounds evil.

The reason why I dont use that combo, is because then my BSB hasnt got any protection at all, apart from a 4+ AS. Also, you can still give him a 5+ ward, but that costs another 30 pts.
I think this is the reason many dwarf players don't use it.
It is pretty annoying having to leave a BSB without any cool stuff when he is carrying a magic banner. At least the same goes for everyone else too though eh? If the rule about magic banners precluding the use of other magic items then it would be really harsh.
As it is I think this is a great combination. It is certainly one I have not thought about using before. I have been looking for a way to improve my units of clansmen and this could be just the trick...
I certainly wouldnt risk it but if you want to, you can
considering the stupidity of what we can do with our BSB? i rarely give him stuff.
25 ironbreakers, with magic banner with rune of stoisism, and rune of battle. with a BSB with rune of battle, Mro Stromni Redbeard, and rune of slowness.
this gives you +9 Static Combat rez, and a chance to get the charge off!
(3 rank, banner, bsb, outnumber, 2 RoB, MRoSR) with them on IB your not dieing to shooting or CC so you'll have full ranks fear isn't an issue unless they somehow break your 9 CR and outnumber you (only way i can think of is flank charge and front charge with zombies(40+) and Bloodknights. with the BK killing at least 3, (flank, outnumber, banner as we still have 5CR) and we somehow not killing a single zombie.)

I've used this combination about three times so far and it has worked really well so far.
I'm not sure why people don't go for the BSB. Generally I team the BSB with my general and enemy characters go for him. That might be it.
