Hey as the title says soon I should be getting a dwarf army as I really like the look of the little guys. So i was wondering how they play. I know there slow and shooty and pritty tough. However is there anything else I should kow about there play style? Also what units and combos are considered there best choices?
Thanks for any help!
I have found in the games I have played with them in 7th edition (which is only about 6 or 7 but I have had experience with dwarfs in much older editions) that your ranged attacks work best to wear down your opposition rather than obliterate it altogether.
When they reach your lines you can then win the war of attrition.
Dwarfs also have several "secret weapons".
Crossbowmen with greatweapons spring to mind, small enemy unit charges the Dwarf Crossbowdwarfs thinking that it's a ranged unit that will be slaughtered in close combat, dwarfs stand and shoot, maybe inflict a couple of casualties, the dwarfs are tough and are able to retaliate without being killed, and scythe through the enemy with massive axes
Theres more than that but I can't think atm.
Very fun. Especially on the walls in seiges.
Wow thats sounds very intresting will be looking out for things like that. Visitor Q thanks for the help its gven me good insight to how dwarfs play.
Grudge Thrower with Master Engineer and Rune of Accuracy is rather cheeky though also quite expensive.
Also check out the fact that Dwarfs can still use Ogres as Dogs of War. I am going to test using a couple of Leadbelchers or Maneaters in a dwarf force to add more flexibility.
Master Rune of Fear and Rune of Stoicism is an expensive combination but also one that can lead to autobreaks.
Essentially you need to wear the enemy down as the approach you but also try and bottle neck them so that in the end game your blocks of Warriors can flank them.
