MY 2000pts Force has alot of shooting things, 2 cannons, a flame cannon, a bolt thrower, 20 thunderers, and 20 quarrllers in total! Now, when the enemy has infantry, this is fine, my rounds tear through his many ranked infantry regiments, and cause them to panic as their friends start screaming. However, when my enemy has a mixture of light and heavy cavalry, how do you go about massacring them? I have a couple of units of Warriors and some Miners, and the Quarrellers have got GWs, so My force is alright in CC, but the cavalry always manages to get past my Infantry and take out my War Machines and Thunderers (the heart of my army), so how do I get them to stay away from these units?
generally there won't be many models in a unit so panic tests are still a safe bet. With that much shooting you should be able to cause quite a few and they should be fleeing 3D6. Once you eliminate/slow down the fast units, you'll have time to shoot the infantry if they have any.
What kind of things have you been trying ?
Generally I try to shoot them to death but it never seems to work, I don't have enough turns generally to really blow them all to hell, normally a couple of units, but my opponent has an almost completely cavalry force, so there's so much to shoot - and not enough time to shoot it!
You could try putting a couple of Ogre Maneaters (Ogre Dogs of War) near your war machines in support.
With great weapons they will get 8 strength 7 attacks on the charge enough to make any cavalry think twice before charging.
They are also stubborn, immune to psychology and cause fear.
