a buddy of mind who has played a lil longer then i have been hes got Lizardmen and ogers hes been playing the ogers a lil more lately but if i could get a few ideas on how to combat them it would b great lol im kinda at a lost on this one
Static CR is your friend against Ogres. Essentially you will be facing a small army that is very strong on the charge and cause fear.
Now fear isn't to much of a problem as most Ogre units won't be large enough to cause autobreaks.
The initial charge will be something of a problem as you could well be facing a lot of ST6 attacks.
I think Thunderers and Quarrelers could be useful here. Ogres have mid range Toughness and light armour so you should be able to whittle them down. Bolt throwers would also be useful as would 'Heatseeking Grudge Throwers' (MAster Engineer + Rune of Accuracy). This is because both these weapons are fairly accurate and inflict multiple wounds.
I think Ironbreakers more than Hammerers or Longbeards will be useful as elite choices to withstand the Ogre charge.
In a 2000K battle I would go for
1 Dwarf Lord
1 Dwarf BSB
1 Dwarf Thane
1 Master Engineer
20 Iron Breakers
20 Iron Breakers
x10 Long Beards + Great Weapons
x2 Bolt Thrower
1 Flame Cannon
Not sure how many points that is but I think it would come to about 2000pts.
Essentially you hit the Ogres with as much fire as you can aiming for their smaller untis with your Quarrelers and thunderers and bolt throwers while your Flame cannon and Grudge Thrower goes for their hard hitting regiments.
The reason for this break down is two fold.
First you want to get some VP's on the board so taking out smaller units is always a good idea.
Secondly some fo the Ogres smaller units such aas leadbelchers are a bit of a hassle to deal with and can cause damage so taking them out at range is a good idea.
Thirdly dwarfs can win through static combat resolution. For this reason you want to make sure you don't flanked so taking out the smaller flanking units is essential.
At the same time weakening the main units is essential and causing them to panic would be a bonus, hence targeting them with the grudge thrower and flame cannon.
Your Iron Breakers take the charge hopefully hold.
Your Long Beards slam into the flank.
If your opponent has the tendancy to take Gorgers I would use the Long Beards with a thane (with Rune of Preservation, Rune of Might and Rune of Fury and Rune of Stone) to counter its arrival.
Note that I haven't taken any Runesmiths. Now while I think Gut magic can be useful I think 4DD is enough to at least counter the worst of it's excesses. The idea is that most of the Ogre units shoudl be crippled so that the spells won't make much difference.

i'll have to try that out next game i play with my buddy i dont have my army book handy atm so this is prob going sound kinda stupid but wats a Dwarf BSB lol
It's the battle standard bearer. Not stupid at all, i asked the same question about 2 weeks ago
rLee, saying a question you asked isn't stupid is just wrong hehe o.j
Anyway, GWs are the way to go, with cannons (d6 damage with Master Engineer) to take em out at long range, longbeards with great weapons would be great, S7 if I'm not mistaken.
Long beards with GW st 7? Wouldn't it be 6 because they have str 4 + 2 from GW = 6?
I completly agree with visitor Q, Bolt throwers and a heat-seeking grudge thrower could make or break the day for you. Ironbreakers, are going to be able to take the damage from ogres because of their armor save and still be able to win through static combat resolution.
SI VIS PACEM PARA BELLUM
is a Flame Cannon any good lol i say this cuz iv never used one b4 and with the Dwarf BSB wat runes would i put on it and where would i put it in the army? as of a lay out on the table
Don't think Flame Cannon is very good - it's more a infantry killer, I still stand by my cannons though, high strength, D6 wounds (with master engineer) and if you have a rune of forging you get to re-roll the artillery dice making the chance of blowing up around 0.00457 which is pretty small, for every 100 times you fire only 0.457 will make the cannon explode, if we beleive Mathhammer (which ofcourse, we don't!)
