Ok i have started playing my dwarves after building them up for bout 2 years but there was one model i never thought of getting, The Anvil of Doom.
Now i was just wondering is it worth taking an vil with runelord as ageneral in 2000points or should i just take the special character? sorry cant remember he's name atm?
or should i just not get one to begin with?
my fantasy games very rarely exceed 2000 points, so just needing to know if its worth a shot or should i just get more slayers and guns?
any criticism and ideas welcome
2000 points I believe would be squeezing it for such a pricy Lord and Hero, but still, the Anvil provides opens up so many new options for dwarfs like a twelve in charge radius or forcing that fancy dragon to suffer the humiliation of walking, that I think every dwarf player should at least have one to change up their army now and then. Not to use at all times, of course, I wouldn't say he's essential, but certainly unique.
Thorek, however, is rather hated by other opponents, given how he's just so good. Personally, the only reason I'd (currently) use him is if I felt I really needed him in a tournament, or if there's some annoying unbalanced army that you just have to kill to prove a point. Though at 2k points, I have to wonder if people really would hate something that would cost a quarter of your army's points)
I'd take the naked Runelord with Anvil myself, given how it would give you 150 points for other stuff, people wouldn't hate it as much, and normal powers, while not as spectacular as ancient, can still be very useful. That, and people wouldn't be whining that you "only" won because you used Thorek.
So yes, I'd suggest picking one up, it's adaptable for any dwarf army, and the Thorek model with anvil and guards looks quite fabulous. I rank it just barely above Alrik, and just barely below Thorgrim. Thorgrim does cost almost 800 points, and unlike Alrik (who's basically an almost must have for anyone who wants a standard lord on a shield), or Thorek (who can be used as a standard runelord if you leave the beardling and forge on the shelf) Thorgrim can really only be used as Thorgrim. Yeah, he's someone you'd probably only drag out for 3k games or higher...
My personal opinion is always leave special characters behind and make up your own fluff
but that's not helpful :p
I would say leave the special character and anvil behind at 2k points, a Lord of shield bearers will make your army alot better, especially if you stick him in some hammerers or long beards.
Do NOT get more slayers. Horrible things slayers, they got shot to bits straight away and waste special choices that can be taken up by more cannons (I love cannons) and bolt throwers.
Apart from that, good luck!
Dwarf women have no beards. Read the WHRP book "Steel and Stone" or check the Dwarf glossary thread fro a link. It describes almsot everything about Dwarf culture. :p
I'm playing against a Daemon army today and im buying the Anvil today and whackin it together for the game. This guys daemon army has a HUGE win rate, it currently stands at roughly 173 wins/ 1 loss (which was 3-4 years ago) and no draws so i think you comment just sealed the deal for me thanks mateor if there's some annoying unbalanced army that you just have to kill to prove a point.

no no we cant. I went great, then it got to turn 2 lol i got HAMMERED turn5 there wasnt a dwarf left. ill post wat i got tomorrow and ill try n get he's list. he now has 175 wins173 wins? Sounds like you should try to post his army list and strats for us, as well as what you have to work with. We can't have some ugly mismatched daemon army win another one now, can we?
