For some reason I like Longbeards over Hammerers so I've came up with an idea to improve them. First of all I would have my Dwarf Lord go with them, with a great weapon. I would give him the master rune of kingship. This would make the longbeards immune to panic, stubborn and imunne to fear and terror. And then I would probably give the lord the master rune of Gromril, so he can take some saves and not worry about losing some of the Longbeards. For a nice runic standard I would give the Longbeards the runes of Battle and Sanctuary. This way magic won't hurt them and in combat they'll be more effective. I'd say 24 Longbeards and that lord should do the job.

What do you think and is there anything better?

I honestly think you would be better off spending the points on more longbeards.

I think you have the right idea, although 24 models is obsence for a unit that costs 14 points each! With a command group(which is very neccesary) that comes to 366 points! As opposed to 19 which comes out to a still high but not so bad 296. Along with the lord in a block of 24,thats more than 1/4 of your army in one unit. Thats not a good idea, what you would call putting all your eggs in one basket.

I think your best putting them in largish units. I have 20 hammerers in my unit, and altough its alot of points, they rarely fail me with a dwarf lord plonked in them.
