Hi every one.
I play WHFB over 15 years. Whenever I did my army list I setup a Lords. It is a waste of points just because of leadership 10 and few more points on magic items. I do the 2k army list with 130 models in army and it is working in 99% of battles. No funy and expensive units as Lords, Gyrocopters or miners!!!!!
Think about it!!!!!
Because lords are awesome?
Make hammerers immune to fear & terror?
Make your army even less susceptible to panic and terror?
I don't really give anything about the runic allowance. Personally I think that using up all those points on runes is a bit of a waste, when you can get one super cheap and effective.
rune of stone
done. 181 pts.
To go toe to toe against the opponents lord of ultimate-cheesy-doom you will be needing a lord. My tank build in 2250 is a bit more expensive, but it has fought a bloodthirster that was nearly twice it's points and survived nearly unscathed.
rune of stone
masterrune of spite
masterrune of steel
276 pts, easy does it.
I think a lord is worth it, however not invaluable, at least in 2K. You can get away with taking no lords, but if the points go higher he is propably the only model in your army that will be able to stop some lord on dragon, or blood thirster, from eating entire units on his own. These models can usually fly, so you won't get a lot of shots off either. That's where the lord steps in. He's not the killer in my army, he's the tank. If he does a few wounds with his great weapon it's a bit of a bonus.
If your army has a decent amount of missile troops a gyrocopter is worth it, to marchblock the enemy and buy more turns to fire. Miners wreck enemy missile units and/or warmachines. Just 5 miners can destroy a warmachine twice their points, or break up a missile unit. Not to mention contest/claim a tablequarter.
Why use lords? because leadership 10 and a free "immune to fear and terror" effect when joining one of the hardest infantry units in the game is very much worth it.
dwarves are sad to say on the back foot as far as armies go and the majority of the "uber" armies happen to be the fear causers, our worst nightmare. as such the dwarf lord is one of our ideal counter choices thanks to being one of the only two minis we have which can be turned into outright unit blenders (the other being the deamon slayer). on top of this we have leadership 10, combined with our other leadership boosters (battle standard bearers and longbeards) its possible to make the dwarf army almost as good as being stubborn across the board.
the trick comes down to ensuring the dwarf lord makes combat so he can bring his fighting ability to bear. things like the master rune of challenge and the rune of slowness are ideal for this purpose (less so against deamons and undead to be fair) and playing an agressive marching army using a strollaz rune battlestandard can work wonders for putting the pressure on the enemy.
depending on points range i like to kit my lord out with a nice tasty runic great weapon with the master rune of kragg the grimm, rune of snorri and rune of fury.
5 S6 attacks which hit on 2's? yes please.
for defense i find that against the majority of opponents a pair of shieldbearers, a rune of stone and a rune of resistance tends to suffice.
combine this with a nice strong hammerer bodyguard with a rune of slowness and you have an almost unassailable juggernaut for less than most people will spend on their own generals and big units and thanks to the general nature of the dwarf list its still perfectly possible to craft a fairly large army around this central unit.
5 years of playing has yet to prove me otherwise
spambot kill tally: 79
[16:19] <@Alzer> Arky's right though
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> I know he is.
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> He usually is.
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> Sometimes it's intentional.
[00:01] <+zubus> i love you, ya skirt wearin nothern monkey! ^_^
Now dwarfs are nails, but your missing a trick with a lord, even if you take the naked lord as The Bearded One suggested it can add some nice kick to an army.
Are you saying you dont take any Lord choice so no Rune Lord either or just not a lord? Cos if your taking a Rune Lord then thats fine and just a matter of choice like with minners and gyrocopter.
I would love to find out what your playing against to find a 99% track record with no Lord choice in that case because as hard as dwarfs are, any nut can be cracked.
ok guys I was wrong!!!!!! somehow I missed points which u made. Even 15 years of experience may be not enough. Shame shame shame!!!!! I'm going to shave my head!!!!!!
First of all! I mean for marching army. most of the time I used balanced army with a few war machines and I'm really good with guessing range of shooting 99.9%.simple mathematic what was a name of that guy?? Pitagoras!!!
I just need to put a kick-ass lord in my army it's my addiction i just love the dwarf lord
