So I have been playing Warhammer fantasy for about five years now and I have played as Warriors of Chaos and Dark Elfs, but now Im sick of all the spikes and the whole "we'r the evil ones" feeling.
So I diceded to pick a new army and I have narowed it dow to ether Dwarfs or Empire... I have allways liked dwarf (since I read Bilbo when i was about 6 ^^ ) but I allso like that the empire is THE one thing thats holding back the armies of chaos from totaly overwelm the old world :)
So what do you guys think.. a empire or a dwarf ??
Please help me :)
Grow a beard and grab an ale ! Dwarf artillery can be more reliable and our WS 4 and T4 and Ld 9 standard on pretty much every unit (except characters and whatnot) is pretty sweet as well. Dwarfs for sure.
Don't count out the dwarfs fluffwise. They helped shape and inspire the fledgeling empire and it is built around their gifts, like Ghal-Maraz. Thanks to the support and council of the dwarfs the empire still stands. When the empire was in a civil war the dwarfs took no sides, but strenghtened their defences in the world's edge mountains to protect the empire at it's weakest from attacks over the mountains.
And dwarf artillery and units are far more reliable than the shoddy empire works. I have to warn ou though that we are not as flexible. Our fighters are great, but can't move a lot, empire can be more flexible with it's knights and fast cavalry. With 8th edition coming up the rumours seem to help dwarfs a lot though, and large blocks of dwarfs supported by a cannon and stone thrower could wreak havoc, 8th edition seems to favour us a lot.
You're absolutly right, the dwarfs was one of the groundstones on witch Sigmar founded his empire and you cant give them enough credit for how they have helped the empire throug the centurice
Foolish manlings or proud, stoic dwarf warriors?
Which can handle his ale?
The choice is obvious!
I'd say the only reason to choose men over Dwarfs would be the Army list and its flexibility in setup, they have a LOT of different units and viable tactics, all over there's more tactical choices, where Dwarfs have 1-3 (although effective) army setups (I'm sure there's more that can be done that I haven't thought of though) while the Empire certainty can hold their own as a fast mounted army, aswell as a gunline, magic heavy, infantrybased (great with their detahments) I'd say their great as an allrounder army.
yes 8 edition seems great for dwarfs, (can't wait to finally have a reason to put 30 dwarf warriors in one unit =D ) but it won't exactly harm the empire either
"Stand fast, for the honor of your Clan"
I'll look at aspects of both of your old armies and compare them to the two you are looking at, and you can see if that information helps.
I will start with the wonderfully metal armies of the Dawi! This army will be similar to the one's that you have played before in light that it will be composed of less troops. And the troops you get for your points will be, unlike your dark elves, more heavily armored as well as being elite(WS4, LD9). That said, they also bring their shooting to the floor, something that the dark elves and warriors will never be able to rival. That is something I did forget with dwarves however, they will not be fielding magic, so if you like that for fluff reasons or whatever, it may be a bit of a downer for you.
Next let's look at the Empire. You will be fielding most likely the most diverse army in the game, and for state troops alone will have your choice of ranks, skill, or pure punching power. And all for a much cheaper price per model than dwarves. That said, they will also die(and run) easier than your standard dwarf. The thing that makes the empire unique is their diversity, whether it be their choice of any lore of magic in the game, to their state troops, to their range of artillery pieces.
Hoped that helped!
