Hello/Bonjour everyone. With the changes to Warhammer Fantasy Battles and the incursion of 8th edition it seems to me that Slayer-themed armies may be seeing a small but tenacious revival. Let me explain: with the stomp attacks afforded to any and all monstrous infantry we will be seeing an influx of ogres, trolls, treekin etc. in many army lists. Slayers exist precisely to counteract such units, and with the availability of movement increasing banners, and a random charge distance, slayers (and all Dwarfs for that matter) become just fast enough to harry infantry/monstrous infantry.
The next big advantage I see Slayers taking advantage of is the surplus of terrain on the board during a standard battle. Hiding Slayers in forests will afford them better protection from enemy ranged units shooting in two ranks, making it easier to get your Dwarfs up the board without losing a rediculous amount of bodies.
I also wonder if upgrading slayers to take avantage of an extra attack would also be worth it, because not only would this make the unit of slayers more compact and allow you to hide your entire unit in a forest to thwart the new TLoS shooting rules, but I should think that Slayers will also massacre units of elite infantry in combat, not to mention units like Dragon Ogres, daemon princes (Great Unclean one), and any other monster they can catch. Provided the unit is accompanied by a Dragon/Daemon Slayer, and with the 25% max to Characters, I can see it being no problem to include a Daemon Slayer with a few runes.
What do all you Dwarf players think about the ressurgence of Slayer-themed armies, and melee Dwarf armies in general?

Well I don't know about slayer theme'd armies but i feel you missed the best point of slayers. They have good I, in 8th I will be increadibly important because it decides on who goes first. But other than that, they will die in droves because there are more attacks being thrown around and they have no saves what so ever. I've deffinatly been playing with the idea of having a lone dragon slayer running around the feild. I just can't bring my self to do it though because if he dies to anything he will panic the rest of the army and why take the risk. I've always enjoyed slayers and i will continue too, but i don't feel the straight up new edition will help them terribly (wait till we get a new book).
to be honest, I like the slayer models, but some of the other models in the Dwarf range are a little.... outdated, i'm mostly into the artwork and fluff of the Dwarfs at this point, but i'm sure when they are updated (does anyone have any idea when that will be) i'll be starting a Dwarf army.
