I have drafted a 3k Dwarf army, and am coming to the close and am stuck....
Slayers or Ironbreakers? I can't afford both in the army and I love both sets of models. The use of Ironbreakers, bar the obvious, is that they can house my BSB and form a solid wall of armour.
Slayers are so much fun to use and can create massive problems for the enemy.
Its a 25 strong unit either way. I am only a Beardling so any input is much appreciated.
I'd say Ironbreakers if you have too. Slayers are pretty bad with so much Magic and shooting being possible. Personally I've seen Hammerers do amazing in 8th because of Step Up, Iron Breakers have a good save and are respectable in combat though.
If you want a tarpit, run Dragon Slayer and run him into joe schmo S3 blocks.

Ironbreakers - Unless you need an anchor. Large units of slayers isn't such a good idea to me anyhow.
Not when Str3 guys look at him. They become scared and confused and will wound on 6's. Hit a ranked unit in the flank, and 3 guys can hit back, so the chance of killing the dragon slayer in 1 turn is... hmm....3x1/2x1/6 = 1/4. 25% chance to do 1 wound. So you'd need 24 attacks to do 2 wounds. statistically.
I'd say that depends on your local metagame. Do you see a lot of monsters or undead around? If so slayers are awesome. But Iron breakers are great bunker especially if theres a lot of shooty armies in your area.
Also depends on the rest of your army, I have both in mine and I run master rune of grungi to give the slayers a 5+ ward against missile fire.
Most Notable Achievements:
Killed a Revenant Titan in one shot.
Killed 900 pts worth of Blood Angels in 2 turns while only loosing 4 pts.
In the wonderful new world of WFB 8th edition the choice between hammerers and iron breakers has been supplanted!
Right, I’ve been toying with both units recently and i think the choice comes down to A: what you are fighting and B: what you are looking for.
Iron breakers retain their position as the premier defensive unit with high armour and above average stats. they're the brick wall unit which deadlines towards the biggest and meanest thing on the table with the goal of fighting them to a standstill while a character in the front rank rakes in the kills the iron breakers have admittedly taken a bit of a nerf in this edition with the changes to parry so are more vulnerable to taking damage.
Slayers on the other hand are pretty much the same as before this edition however, with the changes to how combat work, they're a lot more vulnerable to enemy attacks so their tar pit uses have diminished. However in turn the slayers themselves have become a VERY potent offensive unit and are still the hardest hitting unit we dwarves can field. their use as a main line troop is sad to say pretty much gone but as a flanking force or second wave of attack (hold them back, move them in once the enemy is engaged) are still very much worth while. The large amount of big monsters being fielded at the moment also make slayers an excellent choice this edition with their variable strength and plain silly number of attacks make them a very scary prospect.
it should be noted that I’m running iron breakers at the moment out of the two ever since they managed to take out grimgor's ardboys with the help of a might/flight thane
spambot kill tally: 79

I am obviosuly gathering this army as we speak, with the basics to start warriors, quarellers, lord etc. But any help with the rest would be much appreciated. Eventually I plan to add Slayers to the army so the choice can be made before each battle!!
The main armies I will be facing will be High Elves, Deamons of Chaos and Warriors of Chaos.
