I've got a game against dark elves coming up soon(tomorrow, only organised it today!)at 3000 points. The guy I'm playing usualy goes with the indestructable lord on black dragon, some level 2s, multiple small units with crossbows, dar riders, shades, bolt thrower or 2 and double hydras. It sounds like a strange list, but he is something like W20-D1-L1 in the local Games Workshop. So it certainly works very well! He moves forward shooting with everything, wierd in my eyes!!! I've drawn with him in the past with my army, but at 3500 points so I could use both Thorek on anvil and a tooled up lord.
However, at 3000 I can't use both for obvious reasons! SO... Which would you recommend?
I tend to run quite a shooty list, unit of thunderers, unit of quarellers, couple of cannons, organ gun and grudge thrower, then some combat units to mop up whatever is left!
Thanks in advance,
Best answer for his indestructable Lord is out indestructable Lord with master rune of challenge, with some hammerers.
Tool your Lord with
Shield bearers and Shield.
For armor runes: rerollable armor save+30 pts 5+wards save (in cc it would be 4+ with your shield bonus)
For Talismans: MAster rune of challenge
For weapon: double str vs t5+
Hammeres FC (no shield), 23 people
Total of those are 584
This unit is immune fear and terror.
Besides take a normal anvil. to ground his dragon if it is far away.
His lord on Dragon will be maybe more than 600 pts.
So what you have to do. Try to pull his lord to your unmovable unit. How, position your lord and hammerers on opposite side of it. If somehow he put his'
on somewhere else. Use anvil to ground it. and move closer with your hammerers & Lord.
When you succeed to get it. Immediately challenge with your lord. His lord and dragon will have hard time to wound your lord. (if he has no armor save weapon or KB, you would at least have 4+ Ws. Chop his dragon underneath with your Double Str vs T 5+ then proceed hitting his lord. He will break almost every turn unless he is lucky to kill your lord.
Put your cannons on duty to kill hydras, then put it on dragon. So your lines would be better protected.
-master rune of spite
-rune of resistance
-master rune of steel
-rune of fire (makes weapon magical and negates regeneration I think if he has it)
that right there is a 1+ re-rollable armor save (worse can be modified to is a 3+) a 4+ ward save, and you get 4 flaming magical attacks as well as 2 attacks from your shield bearer. And you probably cost about half as much as his lord... I'm sure you can make a build to kill him, but then you're likely to die, too. Either way, I wish ya luck man. If you come up with a good build, lemme know, I'm still new and working out the kinks. And if he keeps on trying to avoid the unit, maybe take a thane with the master rune of challenge and put him in that unit? That master rune of challenge is potentially awesome, once I get it down.
One thing about your build Mumm-Ra, anyone with fire protection (such as Dragon Knights etc) will get a 2+ ward from all your attacks, due to the flaming rule. But a not bad build in general.
I would just take a RL tooled out for magic defense. Darkies can smash you with "I win" spells because they can use more than 6 dice. Hide him in the second line. I've found that less heroes, and more troops is the key to 8th edition success with dwarves.
I was just curious if you played the game vs. Dark Elves yet. Curious how it went. And as far as my build goes, you can switch the rune of fire or what not with a rune of the furnace. If you're that worried about his lord, stat one out like it, and throw some dice with different builds for your lord, one will be able to ice him for sure.
