Hey all i'm looking into starting Dwarfs but I don't want to go out and drop a bunch of money on troops if there going to be coming out with new models. Do you think the current ones will look dated at all when the new come out?
I'm not a Dwarfs player, but I know that when they are released they are definitely going to look outdated - I bought a whole load of clanrats before the last release in the belief that they weren't going to change too much for the new edition, or so the store manager said, but they look completely different!
I think the dwarfs themselves are going to have a much cooler, less naughties (as in the year span, no their behaviour...) look about them. I'd really wait for the new release, which I believe is next year some time?
Yeah bummer I should really hold off then.
Old edition dwarf models have a very cult following, the ones from the 'Marauder' range especially. However I don't see dwarfs being updated just yet, they don't need it despite being an old book they still work well in this edition and the models haven't aged badly. I think you can look at least a year or two.
The skaven range, in my opinion, is rather a bad example . Their new plastics, with the older ones, work well together in creating the rag-tag swarm that they are .
The dwarf warriors/missile troops/miners sets, are all rather current, so I doubt they would be redone at a new release . As @Kuffy has stated, dwarfs ( as other armies ), have a cult following, when it comes to older models . Though I enjoy the current plastics, I continually scour ebay and such, looking for the older champion models .
If you want to start a dwarf list, I say go for it, and burn-any-bridges-when-you-get-there ... Besides, the dwarfs will probably be the last to be updated for 8th, so that's looking at a year or two from now .
Do what you like, maybe I'm just a bit pedantic about this kind of stuff.
I think I will go with the dwarfs then i can just upgrade when the new ones come out if I feel that way at the time. If the general idea is the warriors will look the same then, i'm ok with it. That obviously is the core of my future army anyway....
Now where to begin...
Actually, I believe Wood Elves have you beat in terms of last to be updated
There were a few dwarf rumors floating around that indicated they would be updated sooner rather than later, even if they're the last before Brets/Wood Elves.
As for the model range, I doubt that the current plastic would get an overhaul. I would imagine the metal models would be upgraded to plastic. I'd be willing to bet that Iron Breakers/Hammerers will be in a combined box and the Gyrocopter would get it's own kit. Miners/Warriors/Missiles probably won't be getting a new look for a long while, so I doubt there would be any fear of new models.
