My Wife is going to start a Dwarf army and we are curious, what would you use to defend a Runelord?
Ironbreakers, Hammerers, Standard Warriors or what?
Is it even necessary or can they happily Solo.
Can't seem to figure this out, Thanks
An Anvil of Doom :-)
Failing that Hammerers or Longbeards
Or as you dont want him fighting maybe Quallerers
Thank you, Just couldn't get my head round it.
Lordhenry is right. It does depend on how you fancy having him. In general you want to keep him protected, this is because he will be your main anti-magic defence. Being as he doesn't cast anything he can be kept at the back away from all the action. Runesmiths/lords are not designed for combat, so front line duties are not really ideal for them. Hunkered down in a missile unit behind your lines is never a bad place for them to be.
I however would never leave him out in the open. All it will take is a single cannonball, spell or round of shooting and there goes your general/main anti-magic defence. The anvil can work, it gives you extra dispel dice and some protection for the runelord. However it is very expensive and he can be quite vulnerable to scouting units or fast cav getting around the flanks.
If your taking just a Runelord a Big smashy hammer with a few runes and master rune of spite could do the trick, master rune of gromril is also fun. In 2000 points an anvil may be abit over kill and it just sits there. But yeah if you dont want him in combat quarrellers or even thunderers (as they have dwarf handguns and can cause abit more damage than quarrellers)
Just my 2 cents, hope you've worked this one out
What i am using time to time is
Rune lord Shield
Rune of stone Rune of IRn*2 (+1 armor save 5+ ward save
Rune of Spellbreaking MAster Rune of Balance
Total 253 points, ofcourse make it your general.
If you want lower cost take another spellbreaking rune instead of master rune of balance.
