I noticed that alot of players (if not all) on the forum play with units of breakers but don't play with any hammerers or long beards.
I think that breakers are great for a good tie up unit, but don't inflict much pain.
But Long beards get to have a good save if you need them to, (3+ is pretty good for me) and if you need high strength(6), you get it with the great weapon.
Its true that warriors will get that high strength (5 but not 6), but they really don't do as good as the Beards(WS 4) vs WS5).
So Is it me or I am missing some tactical facts, because I am wondering if I should get some Beards or a second unit of breakers.
Well, I chose to use LongBeards simply for the fact that I like them. So many people choose Ironbreakers because they're more survivable. I plan to use a bit more tactical skill in using LongBeards. Plus, they don't Panic! Isn't that great? ^_^
Agreed on that. What about Hammerers tought, are they worth taking for a bodyguard unit? or they might as well be breakers or Beards?Originally posted by FlatFeet@Jan 2 2005, 03:57

Well Hammerers need to have the General in their unit for them to be stubborn. This somewhat restricts you, as you are forced to keep your General in the unit in order to use their skill. If you leave for any reason then they are no longer stubborn. Doesn't seem worth it in my eyes, when LongBeards are immune to panic all the time.
Good Point ^_^
You're asking why IBs? 2+ Sv ring a bell? These are an anvil unit, even taking a full cav charge they stand the chance of holding and getting a save. They're cheaper than the other two units and still have the elite stats, but one thing they lack in is S. With on S4 they have hard times wounding anything with T4 or above, or even a decent Sv can stop them. But they're perfect to setup flank charges, hold with the IBs and have a small unit of 10 warriors with GWs charge the enemie's flank.
LBs suffer because of their not so good special rule, Immune to panic on LD9? :hmm: It's quite hard to fail with dwarfs at the best of times but still I suppose it comes in handy. Their selling point for me is the elite stats, GW, HA and a shield all for a poijt cheaper than Hammerers. Again can be a anvil unit, but only if not using the GW option. Against S4 and/or multiple attack units LBs will go down fast.
Hammerers, stubborn. 'Nuff said? Not quite. They do need the general in them for this ability, and even then you're still using thier LD9 not the 10 from the lord. But with the elite stats and S6 this unit can pack a punch, though their cost and additional cost for adding a shield does make people shy away from them until 2.5k+
I personally have no experience with longbeards or hammerers, due to the budget, I only opted for one all metal elite unit. But if you have points and want a rock hard anvil unit, get a unit of 25 ironbreakers with the rune of "being immune to pshycology". It costs 50 points, but then combat is te only thing that can break them.
I kill two dwarves in the morning, I kill two dwarves at night. I kill two dwarves in the afternoon, and then I feel allright. I kill two dwarves in time of peace, and two in time of war. I kill two dwarves before I kill two dwarves, and then I kill two more.

I would choose which ones to bring once I figure out what kind of things I am going up against. if I am going against skaven, ironbreakers, chaos, probably longbeards. It just all depends.
