hi im new to this site and it looks cool but anyway i am thinking of starting dwarfs and have played with my freinds amry a few times but i cant beat chaos and undead and find it hard to beat armys with high numbers of troops could anyone help me ?
making your good unit himune to psychology, and hit them hard with thunderers before they get hit you so you get to win combat resolution.
Slayers do well Vs them too and so does the gyrocopter.
Wolf's points are well made. I play undead and the guy who plays dwarves against me hassles me with runed-up warmachines that can take out my ethereal units. And yes, stubborn (or whatever that rule is) slayers are nasty. Also he uses runes to take away my casting power, bump up his dispel ability, etc.
ah thanks for the help i think i will start dwarfs now
No problem, and by the way, welcome to LO ^_^Originally posted by d w a r f@Feb 28 2005, 11:57

I am also new here but wouldn't it also be a good thing if you equip one of your heroes with the rune of fire..? I mean, if your playing vs the undead then it would hurd more if you strike against ex. mummies! Just like the dryads and treemen (wood elves ofcourse )
You'll need big units here, fear is only ever effective if it's against small units. So I'd suggest to make sure all your combat units are at least 20, preferably 25. Also you need to win combat, so maybe the dwarf "detactment" tactic would be great
Anvil -Large block of warriors (25) with HW, HA, S and FC. or IBs (RoCourage)
Hammer - 10 man warrior units with GWs and maybe HA (if affordable)
The Hammer counter charges after the anvil soaks up the charge, thus removing rank bous of VC unit and making it easier to crumble them.
RoCourage will be useful, immune to psychology will make a unit of Ironbreakers seem like an armoured slayer unit. As said Slayers will do well, maybe with the odd Giant Slayer thrown in.
Hero's I'd take a Runesmith or two, MroBalance and as many RoSpellbraking as possible. But to me really mean, get a Spelleater Rune and RoLuck; then wait till he casts either Vanhels Danse Macabre or Invocation of Nehek. Now the choice is a lord or lots of thanes, both have their uses but you need the CR. So maybe if possible a lord and a thane, make them cheap or give them as many attacks as possible -
Lord - 2x RoFury, RoCleaving, MRoGromril and RoResistance (or 2x RoIron)
This combo is quite effective at opening up CR, the lord has 6 S5 attacks with a 1+ sv and then either a re-rollable save or a 5+ ward. Makes he quite safe too. Then a thane should be dirt cheap, give them a GW, GA and a RoStone. 3 S6 attacks with a 3+ sv, nice enough to take down some Zombies or Skellies.
The main things vs VC you need to remember are;
[i] Fear - He outnumbers you and wins, you run.
[ii] Combat - High CR + win = Crumble
[iii] Magic - Shut it down, save your scrolls for those IoN and VDM
[iiii] Vamps - More than capable of taking down your lords, but if in a challenge then he aren't killing your warriors
Well here you need good saves, alot of chaos troops will be warriors or knights. These tend to have a pretty decent sv and high S, the answer is. Shoot them. Thunderers, Cannons, Gyros, BT and STs are your friends here, knocking down as much of their numbers as possible will mean you'll stand a better chance in combat.
Your heros shouls be geared towards armour cracking, so high S and the MRoAlaric The Mad Another option is a lord or thane of pain, reducing the number of attacks you'll be recieving is always a good thing. Again Runesmiths are of great use here.
The main things to reme, ber vs Chaos
[i] High S & Good Sv - His main troops will have this, a match for warriors. Shoot them
[ii] Shoot them - Cannons, ST and BT will reduce their numbers, making it easier for you to break
[iii] Magic - Once again they can have good magic, shut it down
[iiii] High S - Get good S attacks, the higher the S the less chances of him saving.
