I have around 1000pts of Dwarfs and I'm considering adding 500pts or so of Kislev mounted troops for some fast attack options. (Not to mention I have seen "Glorious Charge" ruin armies!) Anyway, what is the forums opinion of "circumventing" the rules like this? Is this approved or looked down on? Cheese factor is irrelevant, just wondering if most people keep Dwarf armies all Dwarf or if you add allies either as a permanent fixture or on occasion.
I've had kislev allies with my slayers for a while, and this wasn't making the games enjoyable, so I sticked to pure dwarfs.
Welcome Erik_Grogswiller. Stick to pure dwarf, they will not ask for help from enyone so stick with them
Granted, a Dwarf army wouldn't ask for help, but that does not necessarily mean they wouldn't accept it. And as for not making the games enjoyable, why was that? Was it because it wasn't "the Dwarf way" or because of your opponents making it less enjoyable? Maybe I'll just toss them in as a change up to keep the challenge board off guard and not as a permanent fixture. Would be nice to auto-panic a low leadership reg. of Skaven or Gobbos.
ATM, I have no allies. But maybe in the future. I do like the ideas behind it and fluff does support their bonds - Kislev; Dwarfs respect them more than the Empire and will help. Empire; Oaths and bonds formed in the time of Kurgan Ironbeard and Sigmar, they must help them if asked.
So I may get a few Kislev units to use occassionally, but only occassionally. IMO such things as allies should be used in very large games (3k+) or spareingly to catch your regular opponents off guard. They maybe fun but using them often will make it less fun for your opponent; and remove a great chunk the army's feel and character.
using only kislev cavalry is slimply trying to put up for the lack of speed, if you are to use allies, use some kosacs at least.
I see where you are all coming from. I'll just keep them in my back pocket for special occasions. That being said, how would you now expand this 1000pt army?
Thane - Gromril, GW, rune of stone
20 Ironbreakers - w/full command
15-20 Warriors - Heavy, shield, full command
15-20 Warriors - Heavy, GW
2 Bolt Throwers
Sorry I don't have more specifics regarding runes and armor variables, I don't have my list in front of me. But this is a close representation. I'm thinking Miners, but their unpredictability worries me. Rangers seem overpriced. Maybe a cannon or two? A stone thrower? More heavy trrops?
personally i don't think a dwarf army is a proper dwarf army unless it has a unit of slayers
