im having trouble defeating this ( http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...ad.php?t=39924 (2000 pt. High Elven Army List) ) army, im using a dwarf army:
1 lord w/ gromril armor, shield, and MR of kingship (250pts)
1 engineer (65pts)
2 units of 20 warriors shields, h armor and FC (410pts)
2 units of 10 thunderers (280pts)
10 miners (120pts)
19 ironbreakers (247pts)
1 cannon w/ runes of forging and reloading (165pts)
1 stone thrower runes of accuracy penetrating and reloading (165pts)
1 organ gun (125pts)
1 flame cannon (140pts)
any help with my army or tactics against his army would be appreciated.
(and srry, that i have an army list here)
you overspend on engineering runes reloading is a waste IMO.
the flame cannon is a good choice VS thier ligh armour and low Toughness.
Also the dwarf engineering as way too expensive, and the run of forging and accuracy work best. A thane or rune smith with MRoBlance would complitely shut is archmage's magic shase, with moire dispell than he as power dice!
Use your thunderers with aggressively, with shields, these guys have a 4+ save in combat, so they tend to be great flankers against llow strenght armies, they are T4, WS4 afterall.
The master rune of kingship is a terrible choice at 2000, go for an indestrcutible tank, with:
Ligh Armour, Master RoGromil, RoResistance, MRoSpite, great weapon.
You need some Great Weapon Warriors to flnak and take care of is cavalvry, of longbeards, these guys are well equiped and versatile.
thanks, ill take your adice but do you have any on tactics against the high elf army?
Well ,for one you have to shut off their magic! You'll have plenty of trouble with High elf spells, eg drain runes, etc. next you'll need to worry about not getting flanked, as Elves will always try to outmanoeuvre you. Thirdly, you'll need to have ways of taking out at lease 1 or all of the BTs as they are a nusiance with high elf BS. Lastly, you might want to take out the Swordmasters, and White lions, as they are in small units forcing panic tests are very easy with a few crossbows or thunderers.HOpe this helps
PS. You might try getting a Gyro, as it will help you by steaming the elves. Swordmasters and Spearman will go done easily, and BT crew will not stand a chance. With a gyro you can use it to take out his infantry and focus your fire on the Calvary/Bts/heros/chariot..
yeah i have heard gyros do well against elves so ill try that also thinking about dropping the engineer and taking a runesmith.what do yall think?
You might also want to try a Goblin Hewer. Against units of spearmen ranked deep or even silver helms, the Hewer rarely misses, never misfires and delivers D3 S4 wounds per rank with a -2 armor save. That's wounding on a 3+ vs the skinnies and at a mere 130 points it's a great deal less than your cannon. If you hit a unit of cav in the flank it's D3 hits per model (assuming that his 5 silverhelms are ranked in one line).
Additionally, crossbows with shields are murder against skinnies. They have the range to match their longbows, so you can take out their archers, and they can handle themselves just fine against all but the toughest elf troops in hand to hand. Often, crossbows will kill more archers in a ranged duel. The elves will hit more often but wound less and you will still have a decent armor save. Dwarves will hit less frequently but will wound on 3's and allow no armor save. Thunderers lack the range to deal with elven archers if they're hanging back and just shooting.
The gyro for the repeater bolt throwers is a great idea but also consider your own bolt thrower with the master rune of skewering. Fire it the first turn and with luck you'll damage or destroy the repeater or its crew.
I'd also try to add another core unit of warriors. The longer your battle line the more trouble he's going to have in flanking you. Slayers would also tie up his cavalry until you could flank them, which might help.
thanks for the advice, i like your army also and i might use some of your ideas if thats ok.
Sure thing. Dwarven generals should share as much strategy as we can. Our options for moving on the battlefield are so limited that army composition and placement are even more important to us than other armies... in my opinion anyway.
definitely, placement is almost as important as troop choice to dwarves, cause even the best army list if deployed to stretched out would fail miserably.
