Hey my friend says you cant buy a Thane in a blister like most other heroes/lords, and you have to convert it. Is he right or wrong??? If he's right, then from which bits should you use to convert it??????
A thane is a dwarf lord, any that comes in the blister packs are fine to be used as such. The one in gromril armour and with a great axe does well as one, but most will also suit well.
Converting one isn't that hard, most players use the Mordhiem dwarf noble model or the Ironbreakers Standard bearer - as these models actually have heavy looking armour on them. Other than that using the plastic dwarf set and you should be able to make a decent looking thane from the bits there.
yea, i made a thane with the pistol. I shaved off some of the pistol arm, to make it look like hes shooting some random goblin off to the left
p.s. I call him my 'i shall strike down upon thee' dwarf from Pulp Fiction (The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.)
Mr. Burns: Why is everyone being so insolent today?
Smithers: Well sir, it is christmas...
Mr. Burns: I'll decide when its christmas!
i use some old dwarf champion models i have which you can still get from classic and collector ranges on the online store.
In particular i like this guy as a thane: dwarf champion 1, part code: 9947020502305
and: Dwarf Leader 3, part code: MM11/9
personally i like them because they are then differeniated from the Lord model, so in larger point games its easier to tell which is the lord and which are the thanes
...oh yes and there is always the white dwarf, would look good as a Thane too IMO
PLAN CLAN MAN!!
He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man- S. Johnson
I use the special caracters and convert them, like king Alrik or anvil guards look good too.
Well as a thane, I use a white dwarf I got for free (Unfortunatly I didn't know the stuff in the helmut was beer-I painted it red... :o )
Tomorrow I"m going to go buy the dwarf king guy of the LOTR range minitures. I think the White dwarf and the LOTR dwarf just looks soo much better than the other characters you're supposed to get for your dwarf army.
Fear the Wrath of the Anzac clan
The LOTR models are too small, they are a few mm shorter IIRC. Also you would be asked to remove them if you played in a GW store or a GW tourny, they are copywrite of New Line Cinema and are not allowed to be mixed with other ranges.
Well a few mm dosn't matter that much, dwarfs are meant to be short.
And I'm willing to take the risk of not being able to play the model in tourny etc. 'cause I'd rather play with a model that looked good than a model like the current dwarf heros. It's also nice to have an army that stands out in some way from others in some way.
I didn't know about the models being a bit shorter, but I have heard elsewhere that you can't use models from other ranges in GW torneys. Doesn't a model have to be at least 70% made out of models from the right range to be legal to be used in a torney?
Fear the Wrath of the Anzac clan
I'm not a hundred percent sure, but I d know you can use an other GW range other than LOTR stuff in tounries or in their shops (due to a copywrite issue).
But I think most of the models have to be GW, yes. But not sure on the percentage,
You could use Gortek, from the special character set Felix and Gortek.
