ok, my friend and his brother had a 500pt battle. it was WE vs. BoC, and the WE won.
get this, the WE's didnt lose a single model. is this just luck or is it just a hard army to face. also any ideas when going against WE would be greatly appreciated.
i have never beaten the WE general.
Beer, Pipes, and Guns... Dwarves had the right idea.
that does just sound incredably lucky. Or it may have just been superior luck and brilliant tactics.
...or terribly poor strategy.
1. I would recommend xbows, you don't need armour peircing Thunderers as much since the WE's don't wear much more than a t-shirt. And the extra 6" in range is good if they decide to sit back and fire away with longbows.
2. Use small units of troops, if you keep marching, you'll get to him eventually. And several small units is better than one or two big ones that will draw a lot of attention.
3. Give shields to as many models as possible, a little assist when marching against arrows never hurts.
4. If you're fighting using warbands rules, I'd get a small unit of miners or rangers to distract them. Miners are pretty tough, and unless every archer opens up on them, should get some damage in.
I employed these tactics against HE's in a 500pt battle to a smashing success. I haven't been up against WE's with thier new rules, but poor dice rolls aside, I think these tactics will do you well.
BTW - NEVER again say you are afraid of an ELF!
"Ho! stand to your flagons steady!
'Tis all we have left to prize.
A drink to the dead already,--
Hurrah for the next that dies."

Wood Elves certainly ain’t too much to handle, they’ve got to get close to use their real strengths (S4 shots and killing blow arrows).
Strength 4 arrows are on a par with a crossbow but in a one on one fight they’re still no match for a handgun when it comes to armor piercing. (yes it does matter only the Glade Guard arn't wearing armor)
Nastier combat elements such as Wardancers and Dryads are reasonably countered by a nice unbreakable unit of your own, like oh let’s say Troll Slayers. (you'll have to screen them)
Treekin and Treemen shouldn’t do too much damage, after all Dwarfs have enough flaming attacks to light them up like Christmas trees!

I still hate Twiglets!
Oh boy oh boy I want to play WE so bad just to I can stomp theirr pansy faces in the ground and burn thier tress, BURN BABY BURN HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!
I want to see the look on my enemies face when I place a flaming cannon ball of doom smack dab into his treeman's trunk, snapping him in half and watching him burn into a pile of smoldering ash. My cannons are always deadly last battle I racked up a 450 POINT SHOT! It was awesome. But yeah, don't be afraid of a fruity little elf.
Either way you do the math, it all adds up to you goin' down
i played against a wood elf army, it was the battalion. It ended in a draw, i wont say anything for 2 reasons:
1. I dont think he had a hang of the army just yet
2. Its only the battalion
from what i saw though, i think just by outnumbering them with warriors, you should be able to take care of things.
Mr. Burns: Why is everyone being so insolent today?
Smithers: Well sir, it is christmas...
Mr. Burns: I'll decide when its christmas!
yeah i agree with eric grogswiller. never sayyou are afraid of a pansy elf. they just prance along and then one day bam, they have a bolt through their chest.
anyways, i wouldnt fear them too much i did play someone with horrible luck and strategy, but my dwarf army beat them without losing a single unit, which isnt too much worse than not losing a model, right .
anyways do use crossbows like shadows coil said, and also make sure to protect your flanks, those pansy elfs can be tricksey sometimes, with their prancing speed
shoot and shoot and shoot, i play both the stunties and WE and I see the WE's majot flaw is that they do not have very good armor.
i need to find something interesting to put here
Ok Scotty, jokes over... NOW BEAM UP MY CLOTHES!
Playing WE this weeekend, two thousand points. We always play on a long skinny board (his house, helps the WE a lot usually). We usually play 10 turns and who has killed the most enemy points value.
I have two game plan thoughts
ONE - take war machines and shoot him outside of his range and force him to move forward then hit him with X-bows up the wassu.
TWO - take lots of miners and scouts, load up on armour and charge. I will take a lot of wounds, and it will take about 6-7 turns just to get there, but stomp him when I do.
What do you think?
That the Wood Elves pounded on the Beasts of Chaos is no surprise, considering that the Wood Elves were written to pound on Beasts of Chaos. Combine that with the Woodies being a new army that isn't yet fully understood by opponents, and that's a recipe for disaster.
The Dwarfs, however, should have a much easier time with the Wood Elves by sticking to what the Dwarfs do best: shooting like crazy and maintaining disciplined ranks in close combat. The Wood Elves' speed can be distracting, but don't allow your maneuvers to become reactive. Slowly, but resolutely, you can shepherd the heart of the Elves' forces into a corner and crush them there.
Remember, Wood Elves are still just Elves, and what self-respecting Dwarf fears an Elf?
