I wandered what you thought about Great Weapons.
For me, I need the extra AS of the shield!
i say gw because they have such a low I

And for heroes you need to take up an extra rune slot for Kragg the Grim to have other runes... this is why I prefer shields.
for me it depedns on what unit im using at the time. all allways equip my warriors/longbeards with shields but i also give my longbeards great weapons. this gives them the versitility i like on the chance that i may just get a charge. but generally i allways equip shields on my combat units.

For me it depends on what tactic I use and wether im being charge or I charge. If I want a warrior unit that should flank I make them 16 and give them GW. But if I want a unit that should hold their ground I make them at least 20 strong and give them HW and shield. But its not always like that though.
Anyways, in the poll I have choosen HW and shield, cuz its more reliable in most cases.

I chose for the shield and hand weapon.I go for a more defensive force so i use the shields,but i also have some great weapons in my army.
the plan of my army is to reduce the enemy with firing and units which do get on the other side of the battlefield are hopefully slaughtered by my infantry.it works in theorie :yes:

I will probably run wilth both. A shield will cost you 20 pts for the whole unit, and make your units very versatile, and that is the great strength of dwarf troops. thunderers and quarellers can make it to combat, and warriors make a shield wall or rolling brimstone.

+2 AS is pretty good in CC - you're right, shooty units can make it into combat, have a 3+ armour save!
