I love the goblin hewer model and malakai, he looks cool.
Once it took down over 500pts of troops in one game for me and I was accused for cheese, what do u think as I do not want to stop using it!
the gobbo hewer is indeed not cheese.
a single d3 per rank is not crippling just effective and it is not incredible in its damage (allows armour saves and is only -2) it does indeed have a very good crew but like all crews is vunerable to accurate shooting/magic.
its pretty costly too iirc
spambot kill tally: 79
[16:19] <@Alzer> Arky's right though
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> I know he is.
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> He usually is.
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> Sometimes it's intentional.
[00:01] <+zubus> i love you, ya skirt wearin nothern monkey! ^_^
They are slightly cheesy because the Goblin Hewer has all the advantages that a normal war machine has (does lots of damage, tough to destroy) but doesn't have the weaknesses, ie. the crew are dead hard! So unless the opponent wants to dedicate a whole ranked up regiment of troops to neutralising it, there isn't much he can do. Even then, the Goblin Hewer will do horrific damage to whichever unit has to take it out. Although thinking about it, a Beast herd might do the trick...
"Peace, through superior firepower."
Actually it is a very fragile machine and can be taken appart with two units of 12-16 missile troops. Figure half the shots miss, 1/4 goes to machine, and only 1/8 wounds... thats still 1-2 wounds a turn = 2 turns before it is toast. Now if it is attached to a standard dwarf list and entrenched then it is a bugger to dig out.
Not cheesy just a nice unit that has a bad rap...
the Goblin Hewer is comparably as effective as an organ gun against missile troops. where it gets cheesy, it that it id guarded by a hero! Malakai is a ough nut to crack (stand and shoot with dwarf repeater handgun), and yet with a great weapon. I have yet to die to units that usually take out warmachine with ease ( dire wolves, fell bats, scouts and great eagles). This means that you must send alot of resources to go after a 120 warmachine !Originally Posted by Arklite
if anything, we should pay more for it.
An unbreakable crew is priceless.
Also if you deploy it so badly that 2 missile troops will get to it, well you deserve loosing it ^_^ (your math is quite off also, not to be picky)
The Goblin Hewer reminds me of a machine gun type of warmachine. I've never actually seen one in battle, I just don't hope my friend who just started recently collecting Dwarves doesn't actually get one!

not if you can't put tunes on it. Isn't it 25 anyway ?Originally Posted by Cairocopter
The runes are irrelvant in this aspect because the crew are slayers and as such unbreakable per default.
But if you don't play a Slayerarmy of Karak Kadrin it uses up an extra hero choice anyways, so I'd say not much cheese
Actually the match was an estimate... most missile troops hit on 4-5's so approximately 1/2 to 1/3d hit. Most missile troops are S3 so again about only 1/3d make it through, but to factor in poison and such... its a quick estimate.
Now as for the deployment it takes into account the fact that most armies are faster than us (wolf rider fast cavalry, wolf chariots, skinks, DE with R-Xbows, pistolers... etc...) so it was a broad estimate.
However wolf pack my unit normally survives. It has died three times (once to a demon army on pleasure riders (slanesh big cavalry unit), a lone empire tooled character on pegasus (bad dice rolling on my part), and to a combined wolf rider, chariot charge with a character mixed in )took 2-3 round sof combat though). It is a very tough unit and now I tend to deploy it near my missile ward save BSBs and in a standard list it is of course entrenched with a support unit 2-3" bechind for counter charge/LOS.
But most definetly not cheesy... cheese falls inthe realm of 15+ doomseekers, 3+ ratling guns, 2+ Warp Lightning cannons, Hellblaster + Steamtank + cavalry + 10+ PD empire armies, etc...
