Ok I was thinking of taking a unit of rangers in my army when I expand it to 2000 pts. my question for all you experienced dwarves is, what set ups do you use on your rangers? All the pictures i've seen have them as quarrelers with shields/full command/and of course great weapons. I was thinking of either using this set up, just to give them some ranged ability in case my opponent trys to avoid them, or just going with the basic warriors set up to save on points. what do you guys think?
i personally dont use rangers but i have heard of people having a lot of sucess with longbeard rangers. these guys get all the stats of longbeards, can scout and can pack S5 throwing axes. sadly i cant help much more than this being a fan of the frontal assault via a table length march and not liking to place my units on their own in probebly disadvantagous positions
spambot kill tally: 79

[16:20] <@Kaiser-> I know he is.
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> He usually is.
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> Sometimes it's intentional.

I like using longbeard rangers with throwing axes. I then put a cheap thane with rune of brotherhood in it and get a banner with rune of slowness. This unit become an expensive but the ultimate distraction. They deploy very near opponents and start harassing them with throwing axes, if they charge the rangers I unveil the rune of slowness. Then as they become occupied chewing through Dwarf meat I move the rest of my force to attack the enemy's flank of the unit that charged the rangers. Their army suddenly becomes torn in two. It works, and has not failed me yet :yes: .
