I am entereing a 1500 point army into a local friendly tournament and was looking through the rare list. Currently I have an organ gun but am thinking of swapping it.
The table size is 32" by 32" with 8" deploy zone.
When looking at the advantages the organ gun is very relaible when compared to the flame cannon. constant range and str 5 hits whereas the flame cannon can be anything between 14" and 22" and both are shorter than the organ gun but the flame can cause that panic test.
The gyrocopter I have never seen used and I have never played it myself so i cannot comment on it.
The rare unit will be my only ranged unit on the table so its important that I choose the best :p
I also have 1 special slot left so if you think that any of the artilery from there is better than a rare then by all means please give opinions on these instead. The only arlilery piece that I don't want to field is a grude thrower.
Any help is appreciated.

well when you are playing with offensive dwarfs i wouls suggest the gyrocopter because the organ gun or flame cannon would be left alone i guess. and if you take the gyrocopter you can also slow the enemy down so they don't get the chance to flank charge you.
if you are allowed use the goblin hewer from the storm of chaos book.It is a rare choice and quite powerfull.find the games workshop soc website and you can get the rules of their
The gyrocopter is a great bang for it's cost. it adds speed to your army, and is a tough little bugger. it can charge a warmachine crew, some small skirmisher units and even fell bats and come out on top.
Not only does it disrupt your opponent, but it also puts pressure to him to drive away ressources to deal with it.
Cheers, might go out and get myself a copter :p I have the SoC book but dun think I would take goblin hewer. Cheers again tho
with that extra special slot you can add either 2 bolt throwers or a cannon to supplement whatever other war machines you choose to add some killing power from afar.
