I was thinking of theming a dwarf army off the Islamic Ottoman Empire, anyone who has studied turkish/ middleastern history or played Aoe3 will know of them has anyone seen any army that might have been moddled after them?
That sounds a lot like how the old Choas Dwarves used to be modeled. Take a look at the dwarves that come with the Hell Cannon (?) model.
dwarf ottoman would be very interesting a tough conversion though
the old chaos dwarves were more persian / babalonian than ottoman turk
a better army to convert well not so much better but easier would be goblin i believe some of the units come with turbans and scimitars you could even convert some of almuktars desert dogs to be suitably ottoman
but if you stick with dwarves i will pray to the gods of greenstuff for you and i hope to see your conversions
The ends always justify the means
well im not going to try this conversion anytime soon that for sure but i would (probably after lots of practice as i am a green stuff novice) like to try to Model Thunderers into Jannisaries especially the hats! If i did another thing i should do is to cover over the chain with green stuff to make them into robes.
I think there are some ogres that seem to be Ottoman-themed, and I just know I saw a Turkish-looking army in one of the slightly older White Dwarfs. Look thorugh and try and find it, I sadly can't remember which issue it was.
Why are there six pedals if there's only four directions?!
i had an idea to put together a Dogs of War army to represent an Araby force- with plenty of mercenaries- i even made one of the old 4th edition high elf spearmen into a scimitar wielding heavy infantry- using the elf scale armour but using tomb king bits and greenstuff to make a turban and sash over the elf stone- looked ok! i think its in the gallery.
As part of the army i was going to include a dwarf unit, give them cloaks and greenstuff over the bottom half of their faces to represent a kind of wind-break mask- with suitably painted arabian style cloaks and shields.
It might be hard to theme a whole dwarf army around ottoman turks- the only links i can see is the use of cannons! although i have to admit its not a period of history i know too much about...but a DoW army might be easier- there are several models in the mordheim and classic ranges for Araby-types who would fit in ok and you could easily fit it into the existing fluff to give your army a back story
