    1000 pt Newbie eldar list

Okay, just starting 40k and thinking I'll go with Eldar. Just trying to make a relatively balanced list for the moment. I like the idea of Aspect Warriors a lot more than Guardians etc, so the list focuses on those.

Farseer w/Singing Spear, Guide, Doom, Spirit Stones, Runes of Witnessing
    133 pts
6 Fire Dragons in Wave Serpent w/Spirit Stones, Star Engines
    196 pts
    6 Striking Scorpions w/
    Exarch w/Chainsabres, Shadowstrike
    149 pts
    9 Dire Avengers w/
Exarch with 2 Avenger Shuricats, Bladestorm
    152 pts
    8 Dire Avengers w/
Exarch with Power Weapon & Shimmershield, Defend
    150 pts
    4 Dark Reapers w/
Exarch w/Eldar Missile Launcher, Fast Shot
    217

    Pts: 997

Farseer will probably go with one of the Dire Avenger squads, other than that, basic shooty army, I guess. Striking Scorps and the smaller DA squad for assault/counterassault, Fire Dragons & Dark Reaper Exarch for anti-tank. The squads I have now feel a little bloated points-wise, I'm sure I could shave off some, just not sure what to do with them. Farseer's could probably lose some upgrades too. I'd go with the Autarch to match the Aspect Warrior theme, but I'm not sure what I'd do with him.

    A few things:

    1. Stalker is very, very good on SS. It lets them use cover more effectively, and at that cheap price it is insane not to get it.

    2. I really can't see the use of Chainsabres. They strike at S3, and 1 extra attack doesn't make up for it. I prefer Biting Blade/claw. Leave the S3 to the Banshees.

    3. You should probably consider an alternative to the Dragons, since they are quite fragile without a Falcon (Serpents aren't that survivable) and they are the only mounted unit. Every lascannon is going to point in their general direction.

    Good points all.

Okay, after playing around with some more ideas, here's a slightly different tack...

    Alternate:
    HQ
    Autarch w/Laser Lance, Mandiblaster, Jetbike
    130 pts
    Troops
    9 Dire Avengers w/
Exarch w/ 2 Avenger Shuricats, Bladestorm
    152 pts
    9 Dire Avengers w/
Exarch w/Power Weapon & Shimmershield, Defend
    162 pts
    Fast
    3 Shining Spears w/
    Exarch w/Withdraw, Star Lance
    192 pts
    Heavy
    4 Dark Reapers w/
Exarch w/Eldar Missile Launcher, Fast Shot
    217
    4 Guardian Jetbike Squad w/Shuriken Cannon w/
    Warlock w/Singing Spear
    146

this is personally the only way I would use this guy, (I'm used to chaos lords and demon princes, so S3 pwr weapons or S4 non power is a little appalling to me for an assaulty HQ choice) but if you have the points, you may want to give him an aspect weapon like a fusion gun, or something. other than that...Me Likey

good, But I would put bladestorm on both of them (if this was my style of playing, which it is not, but thats good, it means that we're not all the same)

works very well from what i've seen (I don't field these guys either) and the missile launcher adds some much needed anti-tank, (i know it's only 1000 points, but I always field at least one peice of armor...in either of my armies.

some people love these, I don't, but thats because they're not very hot in close combat, which is my alley. but since you are playing a shooty army, these guys could really do some damage in conjuction with the rest of your army.

good list overall. In fact, I like it very much, very effective.
