Thread: Why even have weapon platform models?

Why even have weapon platform models?

Forgive me if this has been discussed to death before, but in the new eldar codex it makes quite plainly that the heavy weapon platforms don't count as anything. You can't draw line of sight to them or use them in terms of range, etc, and you can even put them in transports now.

So the question is why pay the money to get them? I modeled a scatter laser onto a guardian model and it looks awesome. Especially because the guardian model is a girl, so its completely ridiculous, in a good way. Why not just have the weapon modeled on one guardian, designate another guardian (in some way viewable on the model) as the second operator, and there you go.

As it is, it seems like actually having the heavy weapon platform model on the board would just get in the way.

I played against Wags and his female guardian carrying the scatter laser. It's a great idea, nice model, and really simplifies the whole gameplay (shooting and CC). I reminds me of IG and the huge base for the heavy weapons. I don't understand why GW would say, "You really need these models, but in no way do they have any bearing on the game."

It's actually a neat model that looks relatively sleek considering that she is carrying a heavy weapon almost as big as she is. The scatterlaser is huge and looks awefully heavy, and you can just imagine the lady inside of the suit laughing as she just shoots Space Marines down in droves.

    Tex, anyone?

I was just waiting for someone to get offended concerning the "ridiculous" comment. Not ridiculous in a "women shouldn't be toting guns" but ridiculous in the sense that eldar are supposed to be so refined, fragile, sleek, etc, and I would assume the females even more so, but here I have a female eldar just positively mowing down the enemy with a scatter laser that is actually longer than she is tall and probably (if both were real), a good deal heavier. . . It just adds a very "if John Wayne had access to a SAW" aspect to eldar :-)

If I had the option of having a remote controlled caddy for a 30kg weapon, I think I'd use it too.

Do eldar still have heavy weapon teams as heavy support?
Then the rules for artillery is a good reason to have them modeled separately.
If they are only used in guardian units...

Support weapons are completely different. Those models aren't representations, they're artillery.
