    1,000 point friendly

hey all. a little background about me so you know where im coming from. been playing 40k for a little over a year and love it. but the tactical side isnt that hard to master and their arnt a lot of really good opponents at my local store. so im deciding to start a WFB army. through my research, i found that the empire suites me best. i like more mobile type armies and good firepower. and the history and models looked cool too. i currently dont own the rule book but do have the army book. and through all the things i have found out, i made this list. im trying to be as balanced as possible

    hero:
warrior priest: heavy amour, shield, barded war horse- 108 points
    will attach to knights

    core:
    2x swordsmen(20): full command- 145
    detachment: halberdiers(10):

    knightly order10): full command- 170

    special:
    great cannon:- 100

    greatswords(10): full command- 130

    998 total

what do you think? i have noticed greatswords arnt really used. but i like their look and rules and such.

Please do not post individual points costs in future. Thanks GN

Well Empire isn't very mobile, their big weakness is a lack of maneuverability. Empire does have good firepower though.

warrior priest: heavy amour, shield, barded war horse- 108 points
    will attach to knights
An enchanted shield is a cheap way to get a 1+ save.

    2x swordsmen(20): full command- 145
    detachment: halberdiers(10):- XXX
Swordsmen are the way to go, but try to make them 25. Drop the champions too and get more models. You might find that your halberdiers will just die when they charge the enemy's flank. Personally I would get more swordsmen but some disagree. If you can get 2 detachments each.

    knightly order10): full command- 170
This unit is insanely huge and definately costs more than 170pts. Drop down to 5 and get a warbanner.

    greatswords(10): full command- 130
I would wait until you hit 2k to use greatswords. Then get a BSB and use them to take on the opponent's elite units. You will hold and then you can countercharge with your knights.

You're big on the firepower but this list is definately lacking. I would take a unit of crossbowmen as well.

ok, thanks for the comment. i though of halberdiers as a detachment because of the str. of their attack and as a flanking unit, i thought they wouldn't get attacked back as much. im going only off theory though, since i have no play experience.
so for the priest, you mentioned using an enchanted shield. but it says it's only a 5+ save. should i still keep barding the horse? im still not sure how much barding gives you and such. will be probably purchasing big rule book today.
i'll chuck the great swords and i dont know how i got that points out come for the knights. will change it to 5 but where is the war banner in the book? do you mean standard bearer?
i'll put in a unit of crossbowmen but should i give them detachments? and if so, what unit? also, should i give them things like musician and standard bearer? or just get more crossbowmen? and i'll take back my earlier comment about mobility. i guess that i was looking for an army with the speed of my tau, but that isnt going to happen in WFB. i just dont want a gun line.
    here's my revised list:

    hero:
warrior priest: barded horse, enchanted shield- 119 points

    core:
    swordsmen(25): musician, standard bearer- 285
    X2 detachment: swordsmen(10):-

    swordsmen(25): musician, standard bearer- 285
    X2 detachment: swordsmen(10):-

knightly order(5): musician, standard bearer- 129

    crossbowmen(: musician, standard bearer- 79
    OR
    crossbowmen(10):- 80

    great cannon:- 100

    997 or 998

    what do you think?

i though of halberdiers as a detachment because of the str. of their attack and as a flanking unit, i thought they wouldn't get attacked back as much.
    5 attacks...2.5 hit...1.5 wound...and then 1 wound after saves. With a 6+ AS, T3, WS3 they'll get slaughtered. The swordsmen are good b/c they'll have WS4 and a 4+ AS.

so for the priest, you mentioned using an enchanted shield. but it says it's only a 5+ save. should i still keep barding the horse? im still not sure how much barding gives you and such.
    Armour stacks so...

    horse +1
    barding +1
    heavy armour +2
    enchanted shield +2

    = 1+ save.

So you want your priest like this barded horse, heavy armour, enchanted shield.

but where is the war banner in the book? do you mean standard bearer?
It is a common magic item, gives an additional +1 CR.

    crossbowmen(: musician, standard bearer- 79
    OR
    crossbowmen(10):- XXX
min unit size is 10, but give them a musician if you can.

    You could do this:

    swordsmen(25): musician, standard bearer- 165
    X2 detachment: swordsmen(12): XXX

    swordsmen(25): musician, standard bearer- 165
    swordsmen(12): XXX
    crossbowmen(10): XXX

knightly order(5): musician, standard bearer, WarBanner - 154

    hero:
warrior priest: barded horse, enchanted shield, heavy armor- 123 points

    core:
    swordsmen(25): musician, standard bearer- 309
    X2 detachment: swordsmen(12):

    swordsmen(25): musician, standard bearer- 313
    detachments: swordsmen(10):-
    crossbowmen(11):-

knightly order(5): musician, standard bearer, war banner- 154
