Hello! I have started an Empire army.
I don't have a great amount of experience in Fantasy, but I know the rules pretty well.
Currently, this is what my Empire army consists of:
1 Mounted Hero
1 Unassembled Hero(wondering if this hero should be on foot or mounted)
18 Spearmen, full command
20 Swordsmen, full command
8 Militia(have not build them yet, currently wondering what I should equip them with)
10 Knights with lance and shield, full command
2 Great Cannons
I do not know what I should add on to my army. I have so many choices to choose from. I really like all of the empire wizards(their looks and their flexibility to take any lore). I feel like I might add them to my list(to replace one of the other heros). Suggestions and criticism would be appreciated!
I will put some flagellants in my army. Nothing better than an unbreakable unit to stall up any combat while my knights hit the flanks. Just a question, would it be better to run my knights in two teams of 5? I am afraid that even if I lose just one knight I will lose my rank bonus, and that means that four knights are not going to be doing anything.
What is your thought on my unassembled hero? Should he go on foot or should I make him mounted. Also, what is your thought on warrior priests? I personally love them but I do not know how well they do in game.
Just go ahead with the block of 10 horsemen, if nothing else, think of it as encouragement for the enemy to try and pik off one horseman to limit combat res. only for the 5 guys in front to get a maxed overkill. Also, take a warrior priest if you can and stick him in a block of swordsmen, high save with a priest and you've got yourself an excellent static unit for a hammer/anvil.
The Hero is really a toss up. If you break the horses into 2 teams, themn mount him, but you only have one knight unit, he could work as a BSB. One possibility is to pin him into a spare 25x25 base and if need be, switch him onto a horse. I would go for variability and having the ability to use him as either a captain on foot or mounted would be nice (but you may need to pin his arms if you want a lance/GW.
Asking for suggestions without knowing what you're planning on doing is like asking a blind man what color shirt matches your eyes.
