    2250 Empire mostly Infantry list

    So my friends are giving me these empire troops and with the men I have already I could filed this force. See what you think, I was going more along the lines of no gun powder models or knights.

    No gunpowder is a mistake me thinks. The cross bowmen are a waste.

    youy have too many heroes ( 5 ) in a game sized 2000 - 3000 you can only have 4

    the crossbow man unit sizes are way too big 12 is a better size

    and why have you given your captains and Generals shields and great weapons they can not use them at the same time.

    simply for effectiveness, you might want to add a few detachments to your swordsmen units, that way they can get the counter charges in. The weakness of your army is definitely magic and facing a gunline, so i suggest you add either cavalry or a pegasus to one of your captains to counter the latter, or replace one of the captains with a scroll caddy for the former. Adding a few warmachines should finish off those extra points. The prospect of facing 7 units of swordsmen is scary lol. I do agree that your crossbowmen units should be smaller. How about 4 units of 10. you can place these as bait to see where the enemy deploys his big units.

    I would rather get Handgunners (more hard-hitting) than Crossbowmen, and use 410pts on three Great Cannons and a Helblaster Volleygun. If you REALLY don't want those cannons, go for Greatswords.

    I'm not sure why you would want to limit yourself to just empire infantry, but seeing as how you are...

    Playing an empire infantry list is about subtlety and tactics (namely having a plan). You need detachments, definitely. Also, you NEED a BSB. A wizard with van horstman's speculum would make a great addition to an infantry block. If you play an infantry list like a simpleton, you will get beat down. However, there is the potential to really take it to your opponent if you do it well. Don't be afraid to charge reaction flee with a whole block of infantry just to get the charge you want (preferably in the flank). Your blocks don't cost that much, and getting charged by a strong enemy unit is bad--your static res won't help you there. Your units should really be 23-25. If you plan on putting a character in them, give em a champion to give your wimpy warrior priest an out if you get challenged by any decent fighty character. Take some archer detachments--their skirmish is great for defending your mostly static line from gutterrunners, beastmen, etc. Taking 7 blocks of only swordsmen is mildly lame, try out some other infantry (I know they aren't as good).     Greatswords. They are a nice small hammer unit, i am thinking 10-12.
