Hey all, sso christmas is here and by some miracle i've found myself with cash to spare, thought i'd get myself back into Fantasy with 1k of summin, i like the empire, i like the diversity, the fluff, everything.
I'm going for a solid infantry line with a fair bit of magic to back it up. Not a fan of static firing units so i've steered clear of them, prefering to rely on cavalry mounted guns (like pistoliers, hell even outriders are too static).
So anyway tell me what you think, should i go buy it?
Warrior Priest: Armour of meteoric iron, great weapon
Wizard: level 2
20 swordsmen: SB + M
Detachment: 6 Swordsmen
19 Greatswords (warrior priest here): full command
5 Pistoliers: Outrider w/t Repeater Pistol, Muisician
Cannon (I know i know static, but when i think how few armies can boast this kinda firepower i can't help myself)
The way i see it i have 3 solid infantry units, the pistols to protect a flank and the cannon to hit big things.
So should i go for it?
id get halberds as the detachment for swordmen because they have a higher str so more killingness thta jus me or even gunners so when they charge th parent squad they can support fire em
Maybe i'm wrong, what do others think?
With gunners i agree and at 1500+ i'll ad 5-6 gunners as a 2nd detachment.
Thanks for the tips p0lak, rep for you.
honesly both ways can work but i play a more agressive approach so i prefer enemy to die then to hold em in combat and eventually win by combat rez but both ways can work and i can see your perspective, before modeling your six swordsmen as detach ment maybe play test halberds and sowrdsmen againts some players. im sure they'll aloww for this. as 6 models with out wepons shouldnt be too big of a problem for casual games and thanks for the rep,.

You know, I like to play small point games once and a while, they really force you to think outside of the box. Reason why I got started with my Empire was because my local GW was holding an escalation competion where you would start out at 500pts and would add 500pts every month for four months. For example, I think that you should have another hero. Empire heros are cheap, especially wizards and captains. I once ran a Captain with a lance on a Pegasus (who was locally named "Perry the Face-Eating Pegasus") who had some moderate success but I ran him bare bones so that was proably why. Also, adding another wizard is HUGE cause 1 more dice really is the difference between good and domination. Furthermore, I don't think you need to run 19 greatswords or 18 flaggies, more like 14 greatswords and 10 flaggies. Since there is less stuff on the board, their will be less attrition while getting into CC and so you don't need to take fatty point-sink blocks. I might also suggest taking some knights and put the warrior priest in there (I guess this is if you take another wizard, so you could put him in the GS and give him lore of beasts so he can be ANGRY WIZARD and own face with the Greatswords) cause their core and relatively cheap. And think about taking your dets in 3x3 swordsmen squares, technically they are the most efficent cause they are manuverable and more likely to give that flank bonus and negate ranks which IMO is what Empire infantry is about but...meh. But your core idea of pisoliers and cannon is great and definately effective and a great start regardless of what I said.
wow i strongly disagree on this 1 wid you jak but at 1k points 20 greatswordmen are the minimum and for flagellents the bigger they are the more time they can hold an enemy unit allowing you to get a flank charge. at 1k there can be loads of spells and shots killing your troops from heavy shooter armies to magic heavy armies. even chaos warriors can put a major dent in your arm yif squads too small. remeber empire dont win by kills but by static combat rez
With greatswords i think it'd be even more important, anything that stops you being outnumbered by fear causers gets my vote.
Lower numbers are totally fine if you think of them in the right way. In 2250, I take one unit of 15 Flaggies and another unit of 20 greatswords and they work just as I plan them too. Flagellants are only good off the charge, in which they are devistating. After that, nothing but cutting through grass. So, 15 is perfect because it allows for shooting and magic casualties and enough to get an "End is Nigh" in and then later act as a tar pit, all without costing more than a block of swordsmen. I place them at the head of the army so that if they want to charge me, they will have to hit them first and that means I will get the flank with my greatswords or knights. And I continue doing that throughout the game, the extra stuff is cool but not neccisary for the guarantee of tying up stuff. As far as greatswords, the they do get decent armour against shooting and magic should be dispeled through MR or cheap wizards if your worried about that. Also, a tooled up WP (Icon of Magnus and Sigil of Sigmar do good) makes them so much more useful than taking more of them in the hopes of some extra combat res.
I guess big blocks can be safe and powerful but frakly, at such a low point level, they are real easy to get around it and it is more like fighting a fat kid in elemtary school. In fact, taking an all mounted army would probably do sooooo amazing since you'd do circles around him and would just "pew pew pew" with pistoliers and rear end them with knights and that would be the end of it. It's not an issue at larger point levels because you are having trouble finding board space an d so it's recommended you load up on them. But ultimately it is your preference....I just know what has worked and won for me.
XD againts an all cavalry army u can jus piller in a corner and not get flanked at all and slowly kill them with your artillery XD we are empire not chaos we need numbers to win
