Captain = 95
(pistol, barbed warhorse, armour of meteoric iron)
This model is the leader of the warband and is based on a kind of witch hunter look.
Halberdiers X 10 = 72
DETACHMENT Handgunners X 10 = 105
(leader, hochland long rifle)
Knights X 5 = 131
Pistolliers X 5 = 107
(leader, repeater hand gun)
Great cannon = 100
Total = 500 OR 493
The theme is a kind of wicth hunter lead army, formed to kill of beastmen and chaos
Hi, i like the idea here, but firstly i think with the pistolliers in it adds up to 510 points, rather than 500, though i could well be wrong.
Also, a detachment can't have a unit strength more than half of that of the parent unit, so your handgunner detachment isn't allowed i'm afraid. You could split it into two 5 men detachments, but i'm not sure whether you can have any of the command group (i.e. your marksman) in a detachment, though i would need to check up on that. Alternatively, you could just field the handgunners as a separate unit, as this would allow you to keep your marksman, though you would then lose the advantage of the detachment system.
However, i would still personally use the pistolliers rather than the cannon, for two reasons. For one thing, you're presumably going to be going against other 500 point armies - the cannon is good for going through ranks, but a 500 point army is not too likely to have too many units with more than 2 or three ranks, if indeed they have any (i've played 2000 point armies with almost no additional ranks in!). The pistolliers on the other hand will give you a good number of shots against any unit, and given the size of you're opponents army it would probably not be a bad idea to have two units of cavalry, as a lot of opponents will only be able to afford the one unit in 500 points - this will give you an advantage in mobility, hopefully allowing you to toy with the opponents slower units with one of your cavalry units whilst the other distracts their cavalry. The downside to this is that pistoliers are fairly susceptible to your opponents ranged units, but some careful deployment should help to minimise this weakness - besides, if they're not shooting your pistoliers they'll just be shooting something else instead!
As well as this, i think pistolliers probably fit in with the theme of the army better - a warband that is hunting down enemies of the empire is likely to want to cover ground fairly quickly, and as such won't want to be lumbered with dragging a cannon along behind it.
For a few extra points, try giving your captain fullplate armour instead, as this combined with the barded warhorse will give him a 2+ save i think, which isn't that much worse then the 1+ of the armour of meteoric iron. you could then use your extra points for the pistoliers, and still have some left over.
Hope this helps
Thanks for the help EmpireAnt i really appreciate ur advice!
Have you thought about a warrior priest? Would add a little counter magic, and give hatred to a unit.
If you want a unit that will hold it ground on a frontal fight, go for a unit of swordsmen.
Little list i sumed up
Warrior priest - Armour of Meteric iron
18 swordsmen - Std bearer
detachment - 9 halberdiers
5 pistiolliers - outrider, repeater pistol.
comes to spot on 500 pts
Just a quick idea. Loads of great builds with Empire! have fun creating
