So Im playing in a tourney this weekend which has no comp or painting scores and allows you to take anything legal in your army list. They promote cheesy comp from all players for this one as a "make the absolutely hardest list you can and see what it can do"
So i have my empire army and i was looking for suggestions.
So far the skeleton of my army is:
Lord: Wizard lord lv 4
Hero: warrior priest
captain w/ bs
Core: 30 flaggelants (since i have a WP)
Special: 3 great cannons, 2 mortars
Rare: 2 Steam tanks, 1 hellblaster
So thats ABOUT 1550 right there. I figured lots of cannons would be good in this as when people hear unlimited cheese i imagine they will be showing up with tons of trolls, rat ogres, dragons, hellpits, and the like, perfect fodder for 5 cannons!
So thats what i was thinking as a core, but i still have about 50% of my army list left and i wanted advice on how to flesh the list out?
I was thinkin 20 or 25 greatswords, plus maybe 2 units of handgunners, a unit of 30 spearmen with a couple of detachements, and maybe some knights. But if anyone has some develish ideas or specifically... very WICKED combinations of magic items id appreciate it.
Also advice on whether its worth it to take another lvl 1 wizard. Im kind of leaning towards no.
ok update to list... would really like some imput
Arch lector w/ van horstmans, armor of metioric iron, and sw0rd of strife (+2 attacks) 215
Wizard lord lv 4 w/seal of destruction 250
Captain w/ bs and griffon standard 125
Master Engineer w pigeon bombs 90
30 flagellants (b/c of arch lector are core) 300
33 spearman w/fc
Detach 15 swordsmen 275
10 handgunners 80
great cannon 100
great cannon 100
great cannon 100
25 Greatswords w/fc 305
Detach 12 swordsmen
so this build leaves me just under 300 points left. I know i need 100 more in core plus i kind of wanted to add a captain on a pegasus to go war machine hunting (plus i know at least one person is bringing karios and i wanted to get him in combat to limit his spells and do some damage... as he is awful in combat)
What should i spend the last points on? 25 more swordsmen with a small detach? 10 knights? 10 more handgunners? a more combat orriented character? should i put the arch lector on a war alter? would you change any character equips?
Advice please... adn fast, tourney is tomorrow
Throwing a war alter in there would fit the traditional cheese roll which seems to be the goal. Have you though about some outriders/pistoleers to do some war machine hunting?
Also being a "cheesy" tournament there is usually a good chance you'll come up against high elves and the new high elf cheese is not star dragons, but teclis, so with that said you might want to look at some ways to shut down specific characters. With the right lore he could put some serious hurt on you guys, and being teclis he is impossible to shut down magically.
SO i wanted to give everyone an update on how the army preformed since thats helpfull to y'all
Phenegled the list a bit and dropped flaggelants to 24 and greatswords to 20, was able to fit in 10 knights and a 20 strong unit of swordsment with those points and the ones i had leftover.
Played 3 games one vs skaven (2 hellpits, 18 rat ogers, a bell and a doomwheel), one vs warriors of chaos (probably 60 marauders and 60 warriors on the table, plus 2 lv 4s and a level 2), and one vs dwarves (standard dwarf build, only 2 cannons). Tabled dwarves, had a slight victory over the skaven and drew the warriors however that put im in 1st for our little mini tournament so hooray!
Overall the list worked very well. here are some of the highlights/critiques of the units
Greatswords- were joined by arch lector. Felt like the underpreformed in all the games. Never ran, but didnt kill all that much by themselves, couple of war alters, helped with some dwarf warriors and a held for a long time vs rat ogres. Just kinda BLAH
Steam Tanks- AMAZING, clearly the focus of the entire enemy attacks all 3 games. Found their big weakness is magic (chaos player destoryed 1 tank first turn of game with coiling quagmire). Ploughed through a steamwheel, some plaug monks, iron braekers, and a bunch of chaos warriors. and took a TON of shooting
Cannons- other than the skaven list, not optimal targets (2 all infantry armies) however they were very solid. Smashed 1 abomination, a bunch of ogres, a screaming bell, a gyrocopter, and were able to snipe every war machine that came up against me (goodbye dwarf cannons). Definately worth the 300 points. Even in infantry games, shot every turn at characters in units, evetually look out sir's were failed and lords disapeared... i know there is only a 1/6 chance they fail, but if you make them roll it 3x per turn for 5 turns eventually they fail and die
Hellblaster- never missfired, was genearlly awsome
Mortars- huge dissapointment because lost 1-2 every game first turn from misfire. Remainging ones probalby made points back vs skaven and marauders.
Flaggelants- phenomenal as usual, ripped through almost everything they saw (until they ran into a unit of chosen with +2 Attacks, 3+ ward save, and +1 T). Placing Bironas timewarp on this unit makes them almost unstoppable
Wizards- took a lv 1 as well, gave him seal and gave lord the powerscroll. Powerscroll is AWSOME because it basically guarantees a spell to go off when you need it, will be taking it all the time. Seal of destruction totally worth it, both games blew away scary steam tank killing spell (purple sun, and cracks call)
Knights- actually very impressive, for all people have been saying about calvary being nerfed, they never failed to make back their points. Saw off 25 marauders with flails, 12 chaos warriors, an organ gun, and an anvil of doom
state troops- didnt do much, died a lot, but can become scarry when buffed (okams midrazor turns spearmen into rat ogre killers). probalby didnt use them right.
engineer- the ability to reroll w/in 3in is HUGE, saved a number of machines, though causes them to get grouped. rarely got to use pigeon bombs b/c he was constantly rerolling, only hit once with pigeon (though it made a nice dent in some plague monks)
