Hey All! Posting my friends list for empire after he saw how helpfull the TK forum was for my list. In short we are new to FB and he is looking for constructive criticism. Rip it apart if you need too He is going for a strong augmentive magic phase and an aggresive movement up the field with the calvary units flanking.
If the strategy is flawed please let us know
I've been playing with the new book a bit and I guess i'll give my 2-cents.
Firstly, I've found that with Demigryphs, the mount does the bulk of the work, in a unit of 6 (I am assuming you're running them 3x2) you'll be losing 9 S5 Armour Piercing Attacks. I run mine in 2 units of 3 with lance, or a unit of 4 with lance (that 1+ save is just so good).
Secondly, I don't trust swordsmen anymore, except for maybe a flanking detachment. I'd take the archers and the swordsmen and make them into a nice horde of Spearmen or Halberdiers (Halberds being the better choice).
Thirdly, I usally blow through all my dice with 1 level 4, and my warrior priests, but if you want both Wizards keep them.
Fourthly (and Finally), You're knight unit's a little skimpy. I'd throw a few more bodies in there.
I disagree with a couple things. One, at 2500 points you NEED a big unit of state troops, not small units of archers. I would almost never take archers, much less with full command. Most people are now taking a unit of around 50 spears or halberds (though swords are still good), plus a detachment or two of around 25. Even High elves will have more infantry on the table than you at this point size, and they'll cut through you like butter.
Second, magic in 8th is such that having 2 level fours is rather pointless. There's no way you get enough power dice to cast 4+ spells every turn, so your second guy is wasted. Choose a lore you want and focus on that. Use those extra points to get a couple cannons and/or a helblaster or helstorm. And the knights could go to 10 or stay where they are, up to you.
Honey badger don't care.
.... In empire, two L4s is a no-go, for sure... Not always true in other armies. In TK, for example, I swear by a second L4 with lore of light, and not because the L4 LoN is compulsory, I really do use the entire range of spells (including, on occasion, skullstorm!) from both lores.
I really don't understand the 'suddenly, swordsmen stink' sentiment. They got bumped a point, sure, but the priest that I take with them got a haircut, so the unit overall costs ten points more, a pittance if you consider the access to portents, hammer, shield, and cold blooded. Well, actually, I think I know what people are thinking: hammer is better if you have more attacks (go spears), shield is bettet than parry, portents is better than +1WS, therefore swords are paying for benefits that the cheaper units can get through magic. That is true... But when your battle plan depends on the phrase "that's when I'll cast XXX on my unit," then you don't have a plan, you have a hope. Never never never assume that you'll get a spell off at the critical moment... And if you don't get the spell off, swordsmen all the way. Besides which, swordsmen gain the same benefits from magic that the spears and halberds do, and of the three, only swordsmen are likely to hit on 2+ due to portents. A 200 point spear horde under the influence of hatred, portents, shield, and hammer is WAY superior to 200 points of swords under the same spells. So? What opponent is going to allow you to get both shield and hammer off on your spears at the same time when it matters?
I agree that demis are best taken in a single rank. The only real benefit of a second rank is disruption, and that's not worth~170 points! Make them 4 wide FTW?

Everything else I think has been said before but I think having two different lores can be advantages for some of the combos you could pull off. I think its overkill with two level 4's though. At most a lvl3 and a lvl4 but I think you can get by with a lvl4 and a lvl2.
