Well, iv come up with a list. I can see im going to have to tweek it exstensively, and you can never quite fit everything you want in. Would appreciate some critisism if you have time to glance it over.
I can see i have some week points in that my highest Ld in the list is 8 (Comming from dwarfs so may not be as bad as i imagen), I have no real ranged weapons so its going to be a slog-fest, which my units look a bit weak in without some buffs, and the characters at the moment are budget bought, but all except the BSB i have used to some good in my 1000pts list.
Here it is:
Wizard Lord = 230
Talisman of Endurance
Captain = 141
Talisman of Preservation
Warrior Priest = 82
Battle Wizard = ##
40 Swordsmen = 310
20 Halberdiers = 12#
20 Crossbowmen = 190
30 Greatswords = 360
4 Demigryph Knights = 242
Celestial Hurricanum = 13#
Total = 1870
As you can see i have 130 points to play about with, so any suggestions of what would work would be apreicated. Basicaly its points enough to beef up the magic items on my characters and maybe include a 10 man unit or missile troops or a 15 man detatchment for the Greatswords, or a unit of 20ish State troops, or a big somthing. Maybe even include that Witch hunter i like the idea of.
Can the gryphs take a banner? I'd give them the steel standard, failed charges from your hammer can fail the whole game. Then throw the rest into the crossbow unit.

Id suggest maybe a unit of Pistoliers to make up the rest of your points. You will find that people find them very annoying and they can be a great distraction to help set up some important charges.
My main opponents are going to be 2 ogre players, and a cheesey Ka'dai destroyer player...i mean chaos dwarf player. Iv got a freind threatening to do dwarfs but i doubt that will come about as he is currently thinking about what to buy, so people in the shop will paint it for him. He's a top tier player coming in the top 5 of the old GTs several times and comming third once and winning the 40k GT, but when it comes to the hobby he cant be bothered with more than playing.
Anyway, I figure with Demigryphs as my Hammer, im coing to do as suggested and add a SB with Steel Standard, which leaves me 40-50 points (off top of my head).
I used to use pistoliers allot, in my old stirland force i had 2 units which worked well together, but now with so much emphasis on block units, there is very little they manage to do in games. Even march blocking has become a joke as its not automatic anymore. I was running a unit at 1000pts, but all they have done is killed 1 sabertusk (1 wound stand and shoot another in combat), and taken 1 wound of a Man Eater. Every other game they just mill about doing very little. When you could take a flank or rear with a "unit strength" of 5 it was good as with 3 models you could take a flank, but now needing 10 models, thats effectively unit strength 20 for cavalry.
The long and shor of it, no i dont think il bother with Pistoliers even if the models are quite nice. I would be more tempted with outriders even tho they cannot move and fire. Higher BS, Longer Range, More Shots, and not that much more expensive. However, going with the Standard on the Demigryphs means i dont have the points anyway.
I supose i could put some cheap items like ruby ring on a character and use anything left on 1 or 2 more Crossbowmen.
