absoulute Empire noobs first list, 1000 pts friendly

So, i got the empire armybook quite cheap, and after having read through it a few times, i made a list, that i hope some of you can help me shape into something useable.

    Heroes:
    Captain 86 pts
    -lance
    -longbow,
    -shield and
    -full plate armour
    -barded warhorse

    Core:
    19 Spearmen 295 pts
    -shield
    -full command
    -Detachment 1: 10 Crossbowmen
    -Detachment 2: 10 Free Company

    19 Handgunners 295 pts
    -Marksman
    -Detachment 1: 10 swordsmen
    -Detachment 2: 10 halberdiers

    7 Knightly Orders 224 pts
    -Full Command

    Special:
    Great cannon 100 pts

So, now i ask you, what do you think of my list, and what do you think can be changed in it? I have only bought and assembled the Cannon, and i have a box of Empire Soldiers, that haven't been assembled yet. so please, if you change anything in the list, include the cannon, all right?

EDIT: just remembered something else, I plan to expand this to a 1500 points list some time in the future, and after that, maybe a 2000 points list, what would you advice to put in those lists?

This is good for a start, I would recommend splitting up the handgunners though for extra mobility and so they don't all die in one go.

There is nothing much else to say though since the new book is coming out soon - then you can make a new army list.

"Well... that hurt" - Vampire Jon Skellan (Mannfred's right hand man) after being beaten up, falling down an underground waterfall and being impaled by a stalactite.

The captain should leave the bow at home and you should split the handgunner unit in half.

Yes, just what I was saying but why should he leave the longbow at home? It doesn't cost many pts and taking a few shots at the enemy won't harm. He might kill a few models which will make up for the pts!

IMO 10 pts is actually quite much for 1 shot at S3 each round you're not marching with him (if you hit). You also have to put it on the model and I don't like the feel of the general running around with the only bow in the army.

But perhaps that's just me ..
