This is an army list I have been thinking about starting lately. It's based around a displaced unit of Knights Griffon who are traversing the outskirts of the Empire territory, protecting and repelling attacks on the smaller, outlandish settlements. The Knights Griffon have enlisted any and all help they can muster, with the various Lords giving whatever small detachments they can muster to aid in the cause.
Bishop Mandrake, Captain of the Knights Griffon
-Sword of Might
Victor Issen, Captain's Standard
6x Knights Griffon
-lances and shields
5x Order of the Sacred Scythe
5x Hunters of Sigmar
20x Swordsmen of Stirland
10x Averland Crossbowmen
2x Nuln Mortars
I'm not sure of the exact points since I don't have my book with me, but its right around 1000 pts. The thing that worries me about the list is the lack of rank-and-file, however, I do have 3 units of heavy cavalry which give me a pretty mobile list, which fits my theme of a crusading patrol quickly hitting and breaking up enemy encampments before they can fully organize and pillage the countryside.
I plan on using the swordsmen and crossbowmen as an anchor in the middle of the battle, with the mortars bombarding light to medium infantry blocks before they hit my lines. The 2 5-man heavy cavalry units manuever in combination to set up frontal and flank charges while the Griffon unit advances down the opposite flank. Hopefully I would be able to panic a unit and tie-up another one so that my swordsmen dont have to fight multiple combats. The hardest thing I could have trouble with would be a magic heavy army, which at 1000 pts wouldn't be too often.
What do you guys think?
Priest: Very good spec. keep it as is
BSB: You can't give him lance or shield (P.75 BSB rules).
Knights Griffon: Fill the unit out to 8-10. Give them full command, if you have the points give them a magic banner as well. I personally like Steel Standard, or the War Banner (It will free up the BSB for magic stuff).
-Steel Standard or Warbanner
Order of the Sacred Scythe: Give them at least a Champion and a musician
Hunters of Sigmar: See above. (*Note* Don't worry about fluffy names, simply refer to them as Knightly Orders)
Swordsman: Give them Full Command, a small detachment of Free Comp, Swords, or Halberds would be helpful.
Crossbows: Make them a detachment of the Swords. Makes deployment faster, plus you get the detachment benefits. You have your core choices filled.
Mortars: Love em'!
Overall good solid list. A unit of pistoleers or outriders would be both useful and very fluffy. Maybe drop a Knightly Order to make room. Knights can very easily be beaten by big units with lots of ranks, don't go running straight into units like these. Flank charges will break the enemy almost every time.
Who brings a Hammerhead to a 500 point fight?!
