Hey i just started a new empire army and i just wanted to go over the fluff for my army to see if it's fesible, i will pad out the fluff once i know it it sounds decent or worthwhile. Here is the jist of the idea
Well anyway the story for my army is that it is made from regiments all over the empire which are being recruited by a group of nobles who wish to go into the border lands and conquer themselves a small province. However the nobles not really being leader material have hired a grizzled experienced soldier to lead the force for them, hopefully casting out any enimies to take over the remaining land for themselves.
The army will have most regiments painted in differing paint schemes to show the fact most of the army is hired throughout the lands or have flocked to them in the hope of riches. I will unify the army by using standards and bases, perhaps a small symbol or colour on each regiment also to show their loyalties aswell.
I would just like to say aswell that the army is suppose to have a rag tag look about it, not just militia, as it isant a private army or body gurad it is a force recruited and hired to carve an empire in a new land.
So if you could tell me what you think it would be really helpful to me, such as any other ideas or criticisms all are welcome.
I can see a few holes in this idea.
The empire is based on the German peoples of a similar time period. This means that each noble in the land is either not allowed to govern troops, or must govern a small body of troops that he is required to make available in times of war.
The idea of a noble recruiting troops from his own Elector Count, or slipping away with his own tiny garrison is pretty much a crime punishable by death
And even then, if he did recruit his own men, he'd likely be recruiting from his own province, and wouldn't be using troops from "all over the empire".
If you wanted this to work, perhaps it is a multi-regional army mustered to go into the BorderPrinces and clear an existing colony of a threat. Or perhaps it's a force of knights on crusade, who travelled and petitioned each Elector for troops as "his noble duty" or some such- like in the real crusade.
The "border-prince" armies are normally the ragtag Free Companies, or the wealthy and organized Marienburgers.
I mean, really, you can do anything you want, just be ready to accept peoples unacceptance. And remember that you're going to be expected to make it look like an army on the move. Maybe a multiregional defense force would be better.
As CaptainSarathai said, this fluff has a few holes in it. This type of fluff more suits to Dogs of War recruiting from all over Estalia and such. It could be a renegade soldier hiring Dogs of War to add to his small standing army. This may be because he is crusading into the Border Princes or just trying to escape into the same area.
