To avoid cluttering up another army list post, I have started this topic. I always give my Grandmasters the Sword of Power, Dawn Armour and the Sigil of Sigmar. I think tha the Sword of power is useful because it enables him to kill those horrible beasties like my friend's High Elf Dragon. My knights never kill it on the charge. If they arn't equipped to do so, then it proceeds to cause 2-4 wounds every turn and my knights break, to be run down by this dragon.

Well I use an Elector Count, not a Grandmaster, because my army is predominately infantry and so his leadership bonus is very veery useful holding the centre.

I equip him with a Great Weapon, AoMI and Holy Relic.

I agree with you on this. Do you use a magic banner with a unit of state troops?

Hmm...sometimes. Not always. Its useful but its a point-eater, and I like the points to go to more detachments. I usually only use it on my unit of Greatswords, because I like them to be my all-powerful killing unit.

I'll sum it up quickly, and trust me this pretty much says it all,and very acuratly from what ive seen a t GT's and read/played.

elector count-if your playing with infantry blocks, this is the guy. No question about it. Arm him up with a holy relic and sword of sigmund, thats the most useful

Grandmaster- cavalry armies only. Empire is not the army for big combat lords that charge foward. I almost always arm him with laurels of victory, cavalry hammer, and white cloak(white cloak is fluffy too). He will usually add atleast 4 to your combat resolution on the charge, ouch. Sword of power sucks on this guy, considering the cavalry hammer or lance is almost as good, its way overcosted. To be honest hes really best with the cavalry hammer, lances are good too. If you do this, holy relic and dawn armour will make him all but invincible.

Wizardlord-shooty armys only.If your planning on getting into combat, never use this guy. He doesnt have the LD or the fighting power to help you out. However,he isnt as useless as some people claim. Give him hex staff and luckstone and he can really rock. The main reason to use him is for a shooty army, the gunline. This is because he will rock with ranged spells, and you dont need high LD in the gunline army really.

If your really having trouble with monsters, sword of fate is your best bet. Wounds that dragon on a 2+ no armour saves and D3 wounds. Alternativly you could use mace of helstrum, but you will be hitting on 4's with 1 attack, too risky IMO. But hey,why are you charging into dragons to begin with? Empire has the best monster killer in the entire game, the great cannon. 2 hits from one of those babies and that dragon is smoked.

Laurels of Victory is always great to add to a general, the fact they you have a solid two wounds inflicted if it gets past all the saves is better than a D3 wound because there is no chance involved. Heroes and wizards are knocked out immediately and generals will go out of the way to avoid direct combat.

I always use a Grand Master even though half my army is infantry. A Grand Master leading a sizable core of Reiksguard (or any Knightly Order for that matter) can effectively collapse the center of your opponents battle line, especially now that there are less movement penalties for knights and better armor. I always like to get my General into the thick of things because its a waste of points if you dont and the Elector Count just is not comparable. But if you want to invest 100 points into a Runefang and maybe a Griffon, an Elector Count would be good.

I think Laurels of VIctory is a total waste of points. Weapons and armour (with talismans) do better, in my experiense.

    dear Helborg,
Just to let you know that is the same exact choice I take. Plus I combine the sigil with the banner of arcane warding to give the entire unit magic res 3!

Also for inf sqads the griffon banner in a unit of around 25 swordsmen rocks

Or Greatswords. 21 of them with the griffon banner do very well.

Greatswords with Griffon Banner are a total waste without Detachments as they can't pursue. With then, they are rock-hard!!! Also I like a GM with Sword of power, Holy relic and Enchanted sheild. What do you think?
