i want to make a defensive army.(not a gun line tho) but not sure how many mortars/cannons to go for in 2k. with only 4 special choices, i would possibly have one unit of great swords, 2 mortars and 1 cannon. haven't used any artillery before as my other army is chaos and wanted to know peoples experences using and having it used against them.
I like mortars, they tend to be a little more reliable than cannons.
What you have planned seems fairly good. Don't forget your Rare choice warmachines though.

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.
I don't like to go overly shooty, so I only take 1 of each. Two mortars and a cannon should be fine, though.
I wouldn't take 2 Mortars and a Cannon in 2K. I'd take the one Mortar and the one Cannon, plus maybe a Rare Artillery piece. A Mortar and a Cannon can combine to provide a large amount of flexibility. Even heavy-armoured troopers are worried by the Mortars presence, and it's always nice to have a Cannon.
Never used the rare pieces (on the grounds that I don't have any), but from what I know, they're interesting apparatii.
I'm going for a lot of artysupport, i have a hellblaster and a cannon in 750 pts!
I have no idea how it'll turn out though...
