as the title says, for an empire player (or armies in general) is it better to mount a BsB and put them with a unit of knights/cavalry, or keep them unmounted and stick them in a block of infantry. i am about to get the Empire General boxed set and i am wondering what to do with it. in my army im thinking of having 2 units of 5 knights, not including a general mounted and the other unit would have a mounted BsB. thanks.

Well first of all if your going to have a mounted BSB....put him in a block of infantry. Its quite pointless to put him in a unit of knights where he is not nearly as needed in a block of infantry. Though this doesn't look as good with a BSB on foot IMO. Though it also depends what you are going to give your BSB, such as are you going to give him a magic banner or magic gear? If you give him magic gear then I would recomend Armor of Metoric Iron as it will give him the nice 1+ save he needs with no mount needed. But if you want a magic banner then I would deffinatly give him a barbed horse.
Is it me or does any other necron player get annoyed when they see people saying "Necrons eat souls". How is that even possible as souls are part of the warp and necrons want nothing to do with it? Eh probaly me just me being picky.

I'm not an Empire player. But I say on foot. The reason being that it will increase the sphere of influence of the banner. The use of the 12" re-roll will benefit the infantry much more rather than cavalry will do.
If you wanted to keep his armor inexpensive but effective, then I'd put him on a barded mount and stick him with infantry. In addition to the armor save, he's a bit more mobile in case you do need him to go galloping away from the infantry for some reason or another.
Give him Full Plate as well. 2+ Save isn't too bad for the points you pay.
I dont play Empire, but what I do with my HE BSB is mount him on a horse and keep him behind my main line riding around to wherever his ld abillities would be put to better use
On foot, in plate armour in the centre of your battleline in a big block of swordsmen or greatswords
PLAN CLAN MAN!!
He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man- S. Johnson
Griffon standard in a nice big unit of Greatswords with a warrior priest, lovly. On foot, its a waste when the bsb in mounted unless everything else is. Even then its not a great as cav armies should spred out more.
On a barded warhorse between infantry
- 2+ armor save
- Can ride out of his unit and his horse will take him where he is needed most.
- If you win combat and the enemy breaks you can chase them with 3 d6 (means your bsb rides out of the unit to pursue and probably leaves him unprotected but good chance he will overrun the fleeing enemy)
- with the new rules he can't be picked out of the unit by shooting (not counting hochlandrifle)
- no real drawbacks, or I just can't see them.
Ehm, characters can leave units only in the movement phase, as written in BRB, p.73/73.- If you win combat and the enemy breaks you can chase them with 3 d6 (means your bsb rides out of the unit to pursue and probably leaves him unprotected but good chance he will overrun the fleeing enemy)
But apart from that all of your points are valid.
