hi i dont get detachments and are wondering if anyone could help me or show me were a guide is case i cant find one or maybe im just bline
Alright, I don't know exactly what you don't understand about detachments, but here it goes.
Empire troops are highly trained as to reflect this they have special rules for detachments. The basics of this system are the two types of units, Parent units and Detachment units. Each Parent is allowed up to two Detachments. The Detachments are smaller in size than the parent unit, and are allowed to be no larger than half the size of the parent unit, but must be a minimum of 5 models.
There are a few more rules about how they interact with panic checks and the like, but I am guessing you are confused about how they work in the game together so I won't go into it.
If Detachments are in 3" of the parent unit they all get special bonuses. If the parent unit is charged the detachments are then the Detachment can get a countercharge at the end of the enemies charging portion of the movement phase. This charge can only be made if the detachment has enough movement to make the charge. Basically this allows the Detachment to support the Parent unit and flank the enemy unit that charged the Parent unit. If the detachments have ranged weapons they can also opt to fire like a stand and shoot, but have no penalties, and can fire even if the enemy is too close. Detachments can also support a charge made by the parent unit in a similar way to the countercharge. This al;lows the Detachment to hit the flank of the enemy's unit even if they are normally in the front arc and would have made a frontal charge.
It seems confusing when it is all written down, but it will make more sense if you actually go out and play a game.
I suggest you buy the empire book, as they have diagrams to show how the detachments exactly work, and I have not included all the special rules (only the support rules which is probably the part you are confused with).
You need th Empire Book. If you don't have it, of course, you don't get the Detachment rules.
There are 2 types of Detachments- Shooting ones and Combat ones.
The Shooting ones can Stand and Shoot on behalf on the Parent unit (even as well as- if the Parent Unit is Crossbowmen or something). They don''t suffer the -1 for S&S though, since they can take their time with these shots.
Combat Detachments can counter-charge the flank of the opposing unit that charges the Parent unit. So the Detachment strikes, then the opposing unit strikes, then the Parent unit strikes.
In addition, they can also support charge (declare charge with the Parent unit) on the flank.
The drawback is that Detachments and Parent units have to be deployed together, and the bonuses only apply if the Detachment is within 3" of teh Parent unit.
thank you i get it know
