just wondering if Big block Tactics would work with an Empire Army? and be competitive in a tournament?
Define how big a block. I use two 25 man spearmen blocks, with two detachments each in 2k and 4 of the same in 3K. They hold the line and with a character in them (Battle Priest for me) they survive most enemy attacks, fear etc.
In any game over 1k i field 2 units of 25 swordsmen with detachments, and in games over 2k i put in 1/2 units of 25 spearmen. They are quite effective at winning combat (Ranks + Outnumber and with a counter charge you can remove there rank bonus AND get flanking).
Also, putting down large blocks of infantry can alter your opponents deployment, making them change there battle plans and forcing them to react to you, which is always handy.
well i was thinking of making a army of purly ifnantry (with artilery) and i was wondering if it would be affective
big blocks of empire work i field 2 blocks of 25 swordsmen with 10 halberdiers as detachments (2000 pts)
I'd say they are effective if they are properly set-up.
For example, at 2500 points i'd suggest a semi-gunline approach, with 2 cannons, mortar, 30-40 handgunners, 1 hellblaster, plus:
1 core flagellants of 30
1 rare flagellants of 30
2 swordsmen of 30 (including one priest each)
1 greatswords of 21 (7x3)
so you should be able to have 4 unbreakable units that weigh 30, plus one decent hammer unit.
I can tell you (i'm a chaos and vampire player) that this is a particularly nasty army to face.
It's better, it's shiny, it's warped...it's Chaos.
how do you get 4 unbreakable units.
